UN High Commissioner for Refugees and government officials collected 23 Montagnard asylum-seekers hiding in Ratanakkiri province's Andong Meas district on Thursday, UNHCR spokeswoman Deborah Backus said The group included seven men, four women and 12 children, she said. UNHCR and government officials left on Sunday for Ratanakkiri and also collected four men and one woman from the province's Bokeo district on Wednesday. Six more Montagnard asylum-seekers are also believed to be in hiding, Backus said. Villagers say the six arrived from Vietnam three days ago, according to Adhoc Provincial Coordinator Pen Bonnar. They are Khmer Leu, do not send them back to be killed by the Viet Communist!
Cambodia is a country of compassion and friendliness. Cambodia should welcome anyone who is a refugee seeking compassion and protection. Many of us were once refugees escaping Khmer Rouge, we know what it was like. Cambodia should not mistreat refugees in any way direspectful.
