Police Say Fortuneteller Scammed $200,000

Police in Kandal province on Wednesday arrested a 40-year-old fortuneteller, Huy Chanthy, for allegedly defrauding customers of at least $200,000, police said Thursday. "As a fortuneteller, Huy Chanthy was not well regarded by the villagers in her area," said Takhmau commune police chief Oeun An. "She had a hairdresser's shop in Takhmau town and clients only rarely came to have their fortunes told," he said. Huy Chanthy reportedly borrowed money and never repaid it or switched clients' jewelry with fakes while blessing it in her shrine, Oeun An said.
