FUNCINPEC officials in Kampot Province protested against the candidacy of the Norodom Ranariddh party in the upcoming 2007 local election.

In a recent letter to the Kampot Governor, FUNCINPEC Deputy Chief Kun Kim Teng says that Norodom Ranariddh Party (NRP) recruits active FUNCINPEC supporters, whom have yet to resigned from the party, to be candidates for the communal election.

Kum Kim Teng also asks the Kampot governor for those FUNCINPEC members to first submit a letter of resignation before joining the Norodom Ranariddh Party.

NRP spokesman Muth Chantha says Kum Kim Teng has no rights to make the above requests to the Kampot Governor. He argues that this is a political affair within the FUNCINPEC party, which has nothing to do with the Kampot Province.
