Constitutional Council member Son Soubert issued a statement on Monday accusing Cambodia's top Buddhist Patriarch Tep Vong of breaching the principles of Buddhism by being biased toward the ruling CPP.
Great Supreme Patriarch Tep Vong responded Monday that he has seen the statement and is not bothered by the claims.
"I don’t have remorse for what I have done. I am not responding," Tep Vong said.
Son Soubert, who is also chairman of the Samdech Son Sann Foundation, said in the statement that Tep Vong has told local media that the CPP is a "house owner" party and its rivals are merely "guest" parties.
Son Soubert said the categorization was similar to when the Khmer Rouge divided Cambodians into "old" and "new" people.
"[Tep Vong] is biased toward the CPP. He goes against the Buddha's discipline in which Buddhist monks are not biased," Son Soubert said by telephone, adding that he sent the letter directly to Tep Vong and media outlets.
Son Soubert also said Tep Vong failed to call for peace during the factional fighting of 1997, when forces loyal to then-Second Prime Minister Hun Sen routed troops loyal to then-First Prime Minister Prince Norodom Ranariddh.
"[In] July 1997, monks who were abroad had the courage to advise people and leaders to have peace marches. But we did not see the Supreme Patriarch march to seek peace," he wrote.
Government spokesman and Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said Tep Vong is not a CPP supporter, although he is a firm believer in the Jan 7, 1979, overthrow of the Khmer Rouge.
"[Tep Vong] has never led people to vote for the CPP," Khieu Kanharith said, adding: "It is very insulting to compare monks with Pol Pot."
Tep Vong was elected vice president of the 1981 National Assembly of the People's Republic of Kampuchea, a precursor to the current CPP government. On Nov 29, he formally lifted his ban on monks voting in Cambodia's elections, but urged the Buddhist clergy to remain grateful to the ruling CPP for "saving the country from the Khmer Rouge."
SRP leader Sam Rainsy said that Tep Vong is clearly affiliated with the ruling party.
"Tep Vong is the CPP’s spokesman for religious affairs," Sam Rainsy claimed.
Koul Panha, director of the Committee for Free and Fair Elections, said Tep Vong is pro-CPP, and that if he wants to comment on politics, he should do so as a private individual and not in his capacity as the country's top monk.

His duty is preaching to Khmer-People , to love & thanks Youn-Hanoi aggressors whom to colonise Cambodia & its people....

I am not Buddhist but what I have observed about this Monk Tep Vong's activities. he is absolutetly SATAN (DEVIL). Very Scary when SATAN (Tep Vong) sits and sleeps inside Lord Buddha's House. Evil Tep Vong is mocking and spitting on Lord Buddha by wearing Yellow Robe.
What went wrong with Cambodia? After France left the Yuan have never left Cambodia (read Dr. K L Bindra's letters). Vietnam and her Conspiracy to commit genocide to exterminate Khmers.

Warning by KL Bindra, former chairman of the International Control Commission, (ICC) about the impending and total taking over of Cambodia by the Vietnamese through illegal immigration with the support of Hun Sen and his CPP.
His Excellency K L Bindra former chairman of the International Control Commission.which was created to supervize the Geneva Agreements in 1954, espcially to make sure that the Viet Minh and the North Vietnamese would leave Cambodia. It was Sihanouk who got rid of the ICC in order to facilitate his secret dealing with the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong in the early 1960's. This foolish act was the beguinning of Sihanouk's dealing and of allowing the North Vietnamese and the Viet Cong to use Cambodia as staging area to fight the Americans in South Vietnam. This in turn led to the Khmer Rouge and later on to Hun Sen and his CPP coming to power and the massacre of two million innocent Cambodian men, women, and children.
The warning by KL Bindra of the Vietnamization of Cambodia with Hun Sen's approval and with the total silence from Sihanouk, is very credible due to the fact that Ambassador Bindra was the Chairman of the International Control Commission (ICC) which was created by the Geneva Agreements in 1954. The ICC was in charge of the implementation of the Geneva Agreements signed in 1954, espeically to make sure that all North Vietnamese civilians and soldiers would leave Cambodia within a specified time period. The ICC was composed of India (neutral), Poland (Communist), and Canada (Free society).
Why Sihanouk never mentioned this detail on how the Vietnamese are taking over Cambodia? Yet, Ambassador Bindra had informed him of this tragedy and death trap for Cambodia. Sihanouk knows full well who Hun Sen is and what he is doing. Why did he remain supportive of Hun Sen?
To understand this major and tragic flaw in Sihanouk's character one needs to examine the true nature of Sihanouk as a person and a leader.
He is a typical Asian despot. His main character and behavior can be summarized as follows. If he cannot lead, he will make sure that nobody else would be allowed to succeed, even if by doing so, it would cost a great deal to the Cambodian people as a whole in terms of human suffering and destruction of their society. Because, Sihanouk always believes that Cambodia belongs to him, and to him alone. Therefore, he thinks that he is the only person who can decide on the fate and destiny of Cambodia and the Cambodian people. He does not differentiate between his interests and those of Cambodia. If there is any conflict between his interests and the national interests of Cambodia, it is his that will prevail. This behavior of Sihanouk is the main reason why he was able survive by allying himself with the Khmer Rouge and now with Hun Sen, to the detriment of Cambodia's national interests as typified by the slow but irreversible conquest of Cambodia by the Vietnamese. Everybody knows that under the People Republic of Kampuchea,Tep Vong was a member of the Communist Party and Vice president of the National Assembly. What a srenage position for a Buddist monk!
He strongly defends the CPP and denies corruption.He only deserves disgust.
As a monk, he should keep his mouth shut concerning politics. Religion and Politics should never mix. The middle east is a good example of religion and politics mixing in a bad way.

Tep Vong doesn't know much about Buddhism. His instructions to Buddhist monks are always made in the interests of the CPP. Junior-ranking Buddhist monks admitted that this clueless Supreme Patriach is unable to differentiate between sin and merit, but he always acts as if he holds the First Class PhD in Buddhism.
Tep Vong initiates corrupt practices in the appointments of Buddhist monks all over the country. His faith is with the Viet puppet CPP, not the Buddha. People know what is is going on inside his shrimp-brain.
I guess the the Buddhist religion that we withness here is not the same that our fore fathers follow. Now a day you could see top Monks have Lexus, multiple personal cell phones, and body guards. I'm just suprised that they haven't allowed to be maried and have children yet.
After he has done too many Sins Tep Vong now showed his fake love of Buddha. I bet some girls may have bore his babies or been killed already. Many Monks to day are predators who hide themselves insdie the Yellow Robe.

When I see the pictures of Ah Kvak, Chea Sim, Heng Samrin, and Mee J'rouk Bun Sam Heang rased theri both hand up (sampeass), I threw up a few times. These people are te most brutal low like dirt.
