Pov Sam Ath, 29, a journalist who colleagues say was sympathetic toward the Khmer Kampuchea Krom ethnic group, was found murdered Wednesday.
Police said they found Pov Sam Ath's body hidden in the bushes of a field in Treng Trayung commune, Kampong Speu province. He had been beaten with a baton, asphyxiated and put in a trunk, police said.
Pov Sam Ath was the editor of Samleng Khmer Krom, or Voice of Khmer Krom, a newspaper sympathetic to the cause of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom ethnic group, many of whom live in Vietnam but have cultural ties to Cambodia.
The rights of the ethnic group have become increasingly politicized in recent months, with activists and journalists in Cambodian accusing the Vietnamese of rights abuses against its members.
A family representative said Pov Sam Ath had been missing since April 22 and that the murder may have been the result of a personal grudge, not because of the Khmer Kampuchea Krom.
Om Chandara, director of the Friends of Khmer Journalists Association, said the group regretted the murder and called for a thorough investigation.
Kampong Speu Provincial Police Chief Keo Pisei declined comment Thursday.

Observingly and interestingly enough, the YUON/Vietcongs pretending to be Khmer, disrespecfully abusive of the freedom of speech, walk all over Khmer's head here on KI-Media. And as a political news blog, there isn't a DAMN thing KI-Media can do about it! What a shame!
After the killing of a Krom monk, now it's the turn of a khmer krom journalist. They killed them to please their Master. you thin they will find out the murderers? Not at all, unless HUN TO , HUN CHOCH and Hun Sen's relatives are killed.

Let's do it by asking each and everyone of us, friends and families and relatives to write/email to our scholars, doctors, lawyers, intellectuals and the like to, in turn, write/email to SAM RAINGSY, KEM SOKHA, RANARITH, THOMICO and other political figures to please set their personal interest asides and join in with one another to form one single democratic party to vote HUN SEN and his regime out of power in the general election of 2008.
Let's do it on a grand scale as this is may be our last chance to save our homeland and little of what we have left during this more than a three decade long of HUN SEN pro-viet regime control of CAMBODIA. Let's see that it happens and disseminated it on every Khmer site on the internet. Below is my email to Dr. Lao Mong Hay. Please help by writing yours right now. Thank you so very much for helping save Cambodia and ourselves.
