Translated from Khmer by Socheata

Tan Vanthara, the former SRP MP from Battambang province, defected to join the CPP on Sunday. The Cambodia Daily reported that Tan Vanthara is the 4th SRP MP who defected to join the CPP this year. Eng Chhay Eang, SRP Secretary-general, acknowledged Tan Vanthara’s defection, and he said that it was his right to leave the party, but he said that this departure will not have a negative impact on the SRP in the upcoming election. Eng Chhay Eang said that the success of the SRP depends on the confidence of the voters on the SRP. Since 2007, the SRP lost 6 of its original 23 MPs, the 6 are: Tan Vanthara, Ngo Sovann, Ahmad Yahya, Sok Pheng who defected to the CPP, Kieng Vang who joined the Funcinpec, and Keo Remy who joined the HRP.

Hun Sen's Leadership: power-thirsty or nation-building?

It is imperative that the major farmers of Cambodians should not be more savaged than the minor rich and high ranking officers. This kind of social gap had been dictated by the Khmer Rouge, but unfortunately KR pursued their public policy depended on personal egoistic leadership, not legal principles. Aristotle had clearly elaborated of what he said "in a democracy the poor will have more power than the rich, because there are more of them, and the will of the majority is supreme" is wholly mediated by the rule of law.

Rule of law is the core of democracy to creating social equity. Without law, a nation could not be called a nation-state. Cambodia is not a nation-state under Hun Sen's leadership. Hun Sen is the law, above the law, and the leviathan.

If we observe closely to the leadership of Hun Sen, there have been gradually failed for Cambodia's advancement. They are such as:

1. Since 1993 to present, the national resources which are the backbone of nation wealth has been depleted. Adam Smith clarified the progress of nation-state wholly depends on the rightly use of national resources to sustain its social, economic and politics. But how this idea rightly implemented in Cambodia? While the national resources have been depleted and continuously deprived, the living standard of Cambodians are under poverty line, state cannot afford the raise the decent wage of public officers and workers/labors. Farmers are suffered by climate change such as drought or flood and land grabbing.

2. Cambodia has received foreign aids to improve its social, economic and politics. If we think of the debt loans, individually each Cambodian has to reserve their debt $1500 to $2500 that this surely upset Cambodian younger generation. But those money have little bettered Cambodian society. While the debt is increasing but the living standard is decreasing in the period of these 15 years.

3. Political leader requires political will. Sh/e has to change the perception of "power thirsty" to "nation-building". In this manner, Hun Sen leadership is not different from Cambodian previous leaders that from time to time, from day to day, he has triumphally projected to sustain and increase his power, not to build the nation. Cambodian nation has moved forward only according to the change of the world and demographic, not according to the willingness and ability of its incumbent leader.

Social stability is truly imperative for Hun Sen to stabilize Hun Sen's power. It is not genuinely originating from Hun Sen's political will to safeguard the sustainability of future Cambodia. Some roads, schools, hospitals, commercial buildings surely come from the huge influx of foreign aids, economic liberalization, globalization, and transnational flows of investment. They are genuinely coming from the will of leader for true development.

4. Democracy actually built by the peoples who are full of knowledge. Many countries have facilitated the rule of law, education, and government system to be flexible for future national transcendence. To achieve this willing and pioneering, many world well-known leaders step down from power in order to have a positive change for their nation.

But Cambodia under Hun Sen leadership is contradict that the rule of law has not enforced. Corruption, favoritism, nepotism and patronage are widespread practicing throughout the country. Education to empower knowledge to the people for the need of democracy reformation has been gradually deteriorated. The national mass media that is the very important source for public education is being manipulated and subverted by the government. TVK or CTN or other TV stations including Radios are working for the CPP propaganda. This mass media is poisoning Cambodian peoples. Gigantic influence and information bombardment are singly inclining one side without fair judgment. This kind of the mass media is the clue of division and ignorance stage for the citizens. Democracy requires mass media to be neutral and balancing the point of view from all sides.

Internally, CPP under genuine national leadership certainly requires courage to stand up to reform the current contamination. CPP as one of the main national party should focus on the "national building" not "power thirsty" or "kleptocracy".

CPP can be a role model to strengthen the rule of law, creating the neutral Buddhist monks, neutral public officers, neutral military, neutral policemen, especially neutral mass media.

Under Hun Sen leadership, CPP has tremendously failed to develop the country though huge national natural resources depleted, huge aids granted, huge debt loans increased, and peoples in general are still weak to embed the foundation of democracy and brighter future of Cambodia.

SRP comes as the ideal of democracy and new hope of brighter future for Cambodia that CPP should shoulder to operate a genuine "nation-building".

H.E. Sam Rainsy should consider about the leading of SRP secretary-general Eng Chhay Eang. Many SRP members don't like him. They don't know how to do, except keep quietly or defected to joint other parties.

I will defect too after I finished my training with the SRP. By that time my name and reputation will be enough to sell toe the CPP.At the moment no one has ever heard of me, so my names has no value now. If I join other small parties, the CPP wouldn't give a damn about. This is how I create my own job and make money. Title His Excellency in Cambodia is very important. Thank you Uncle Sam for your generpus tolerance of me so far.

I don't get it, if many of the SRP members don't like Eng Chhay Eang then why the fuck they voted for him. And if Eng Chhay Eang is voted up there to the position why don't they just play by the team rules instead of this and that. Defecting because of one person is not the honorable cause if this was the actual reason. There are ways to solve this issue.

1.08PM,

many in SRP are in fact only looking for their career. That Ek Oudam title is more important. There are not many strong SRP members. The reason they are with SRP is because they couldn't join the CPP as direct route. So we will see more of this soon. Training with SRP is the best chance to jump to the CPP andget HE title. You won't get this from HRP or other smaller ones.

However, Ieng factor should not be entirely discounted - it was part of the reason. This ieng has no morale in the first place. Branch stacking got him the position but it won;t reolve internal problem.

"There are not many srtong SRP members", 1:16? Then why you were bragging so much about them before they made the decision to defect the SRP, huh?

Sam Rainsy -- now, it's time to concede your defeat. Just do your people a favor: "Just call it quit."

idiot, you will see ...all you need to do is tell your CPP cunts not to harrass the SRP, if you a man enough. give them equal access to state media. Make Nec independent. Last but not least, don't call on the yuon to vote for you. millions of them to help you stack up the boxes

I congratulate Wookie Kim who are enthusiastically to realize the current nature of Cambodian politics.

Ignorant political adherents likes to divide politicians and peoples with insulting language. Sam Rainsy himself is a Khmer who heartedly intends to bring peace, progress, just, dignity and independence for Cambodia through his appearance at Yale as well as appealing more observers to come to the election this July 27 in Cambodia.

I don't see any useless and frustration among dissents as those dissents target to bring good for Cambodia.

But unfortunately, as Kim mentioned, he has to be more careful when talking about CPP because this party's leaders including some of their cronies and supporters are not welcoming dissents.

Cambodia will face more danger and bad luck when CPP itself projects to regards dissents as their enemies internally and externally including some of their supporters who comment in this KI blog.

We can clearly understand the nature of despotic leadership of CPP through few comments in here....their languages are barbaric and disgusting.

My beloved Khmers!

I think therefore I am undoubtedly believing that CPP's parasites barariously and inhumanly rest on violence. Unfortunately, if the people of Khmers in Srok Khmer are not influentially nor conscientiously decided to vote for the better day not only for themselve but also the nation, they will be continuously humiliated, isolated, and suffering!

I am not SRP member nor am I a fan, but I want to say that Mrs. Sam should just ignore those members who don't have constant position, for later on those defectors will be kicked out of the CPP automatically.

The one who had begin this movement is Meng Rita, then Keo Remy. I know these persons.
Keo Remy (in 2001), He came to Cambodia to help cambodians. So why did he leave SRP? That's a big question We can ask ourself? Keo Remy is CCP? Well I don't think so.
I have once ask one of the advisor of Ok Socheat why did SRP's members ask you to be the middleman in the dispute of Eng Chhay Ieng with others high rank members? (2006, june or july) He has told me that SRP members want his skins (Il veut sa peau)(Cambodian : Chang Kab)... Bribery and others stuffs in the 2004 affairs.

So my conclusion is that if SRP win the election, the first person that CPP will put in prison (political) is Eng Chhay Ieng. So many persons sue him about the debts (casinos).
And my other conclusion is.. SRP or others parties than CPP will never win the election. Unless, if the democratic joins together.

Why They vote for Eng Chhay Ieng as Secretary General? I have once elaborate this theory. And Sok Pheng (Kampong Thom) has confirmed my theory. Eng Chhay Ieng has put so many cronies at the communes. To vote for Secretary General, it's not all the members who are allowed to vote. It's like throwing Prince Ranariddh from his post as president of FUNCINPEC, it's the commune people who throws him. Well it's Nhiek Bunchhay commune's people.

Wishing that Cambodia will have real freedom and peace, good luck to all of us !!!!

Before I forget,
Ahmad Yahya is just an opportunist's man. He had his problem to solve. It's not about hating SRP or others.
So I would only consider 3 right now.

My beloved Khmers!

Honestly speaking, I am always questionally hating Khmer PoliSick,
Perhaps, because we can't find the leader who can secure our future, protect our dreams or care and sacrifice more for the nation.

Don't vote SRP, otherwise you will find many cyclo drivers working in our National Assembly. All the good people has left the SRP and join with the CPP. The SRP is dead; the best they can do for you is discount ride on the cyclo to Psa Tmey.
