Former king Norodom Sihanouk will travel to Vietnam in June to help strengthen ties between the two countries, a Royal Palace official told VOA Khmer Monday.
“The visit of His Majesty reflects a close relationship and harmony between the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam,” royal adviser Sisowath Thomico said.
Norodom Sihanouk, who is 87, will spend from four days to a week in Vietnam, at the invitation of the government, his first trip since 1995, nine years before his abdication.
“The Vietnamese president, as well as the Communist Party of Vietnam, wish to recall the gratitude of His Majesty to Vietnam in fighting against the imperialist United States,” Sisowath Thomico said.
The former monarch’s visit comes amid rising criticism by the opposition of what it says is border encroachment from Vietnam.
Yim Sovann, a lawmaker and spokesman for the Sam Rainsy Party, said the party hoped the former king would raise the border issue with the Vietnamese government.
And Yun Tharo, another opposition lawmaker, said he will try to send to the former king a letter to help him discuss the rights of the minority Khmer in Vietnam.
Sisowatch Thomico said that under the constitution a king or former king has no power in any political discussion.

Dear Thomico,
Please do not confirm that the Cambodian leaders, especially the royal family members, are stupid. Hun Sen gives Khmer land to Vietnam to express his gratitude to Vietnam for helping him win power. It is only fair that Vietnam, in expressing its gratitude for Sihanouk's help to win power in Vietnam, returns the land.
It will be plain stupid if Sihanouk is content with just a few banquets and empty praises while he is there.

The same shit I read in the past 1000 years nothing more but a Yuon's propagandas to attack and blame on Khmers while ah Yuon were infiltrating in Cambodia for 500 years or so. What do these Yuon's propagandists like Heng Soy know what to do when ah Yuon're every where carrying Khmer ID?

Do you have any thing to substantiate your claim that Heng Soy is running a propaganda for Yuons? If you do, please share with us. But if you don’t, then please stop making false accusation. This kind of accusation does not help our unity. In my humble opinion, I think folks at KI are doing a great job in keeping our fellow compatriots informed. Furthermore, I am sure that the government officials also visit KI to learn about what happening in Khmer communities abroad. They may not like what the average Khmer citizen says about them, but they are definitely curious to find out what our frustrations are, and they probably learn a few good things from our discussions too, although they won’t publicly admit it.
