“Pol Pot's regime was a regime that applied the policies of China...and the Cambodian people suffered in this regime..."Opposition lawmaker Son Chhay has joined other international parliamentarians in a call for peaceful talks over an autonomous Tibetan territory.
“This is a push from internationals who participated as members of parliament from many countries,” Son Chhay told VOA Khmer.
Son Chhay said negotiations between Dalai Lama and the Chinese was a necessary first step that should be pushed.
Tibet has a government in exile led by the Dalai Lama, following a Chinese takeover of the territory in the 1950s.
In a speech to Tibetans in exile on the 50th anniversary of Democracy Day, Son Chhay said he sympathized with the Tibetan people.
“Pol Pot's regime was a regime that applied the policies of China...and the Cambodian people suffered in this regime, died, and were almost extinguished,” he said. “We understand that is the suffering of Tibet.”
“I also join with the Tibetans in wishing there should be an immediate resolution, in a good way, for giving the proper rights to thousands of [Tibetan] people who live on Indian land to return to their homeland,” he said.
He applauded the non-violent struggle of the exiled government in India to create an autonomous state.

Why he is still not clever and knowledgeable or open mind? How can he compare Pol Pot with China? Chinese communist fought Japanese untill Japan surrender during world war 2, and it try to develop the country from the mess till now It become one of biggest economy in the world. Do you ever visit, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Peijin and other cities in China? You will be surprised by its development. What about pol pot, it destroy everything, stop using money....etc. It use temple Angkor wat as cattle shelter. China develop the country at the same time keeping old tradition culture records. All history of China are preserved very well and keeping even history of neighbouring countries like Cambodia, Do you know Chiev Takwan who wrote diary note during his stay in Angkor period? How about Khmer rouge? they destroy everything even killing intellectual.
Communist in China is not like north Korea, all leaders come to power by their archievement, not by family tree. You see how many leaders China change from Mao Tsetong till current leader?Do these leaders are relatives to each other or not? Chinese now can fly to the moon?You know how proud of Chinese people? Pol pol is stupid do not bring any theories of communism to apply? I don't care democratic or communism, what I care is having enough food to eat, education, culture practice, social justice, freedom under law.
To be against China is most stupid move. Even the US and other countries, they dare not to do so. China is asset, not liability if we know how to use this relationship well. But I think Opposition party can not do so.

SRP now is in disarray. Its leader in exiled and gradually losing its glitter with voters. Son Chhay has nothing better to do but to poke his hose in the wrong places, he should be more vocal about land grabbing and tackle other important issues relevant to national security from the Viet. He comment about Tibet issue is the stupidest up to day as a PM.

Hor numhong condemned UN sanction against Iran, Son Chhay condemned China rules in Tibet. Sad, Cambodia seems to be directionless without a clearly defined vision... I will be better if you all have one vision and compete on how to achieve it!

Chinese communist fought the Colonialists with the Kuomintang until they get their freedom after World War 2. It betray the Chinese Nationalist with the support of the ex Soviet Communist and it killed millions of people and burned millions of book during the Chinese Culture Revolution, it brought a big mess to China just like Pol Pot did to Cambodia with communist China’s doctrine.
After they change their policy and accept the help from American that’s it become success in economy which it provide small appliances to the world (China cannot built a good shoe without help from the western countries, forget about motorcycle nor car!
