Op-Ed by Pissed Off
Sihanouk is still partly responsible for the destruction of Cambodia by his joining with the Khmer Rouge in 1970.
He defended the KR at the UN close to the end of 1975 instead of calling for help from the UN to stop the eventual destruction of Cambodia and Cambodians.
By then he must have known for sure that many who had served under Lon Nol had been brutally killed. As a claimed father of the nation he should know better that revenge is wrong.
He only resigned after having known that the KR did not give a damn about his monarchy and what he always wants - the preservation of his monarchy and some power!
He is doing the same thing right now by cooperating totally with Hun Sen so his son can be a king of Cambodia even though the kingship is meaningless and totally powerless.
What is the point of keeping the food when it is rotten to the core and cannot be eaten?
He made an unsolicited declaration and promise that he would die in Cambodia no matter how his health turned only to break it a few weeks later.

Cambodia must be a republic sooner rather than later to make the country run more efficiently.
Singapore has a lot that we Cambodia can learn from, I would suggest that we send as many students to study in Singapore as possible , to study Singapore's governance, education system, economic management, political management, English and Chinse languages etc...
Most the people who made comments above including pissed off, except this Yuon 7;30am are Khmers, but the kind of Khmers who fell into Yuon traps as always.
Ah Sihanouk is the main root of Khmer's suffering.

He is the dying and skinny tiger right now. This time he will flying back to Cambodia in a coffin. The plan will crash upon landing in Pochentong on the day his body returns. He makes million khmer suffer and the country will be wiped out from the world map.

Oh now you said Yuon are not murderers? It was Yuon who caused all the problems in Laos and Cambodia. Gee..ah/me Yuon kantorb 11:26AM niss.
The commentators in this blog are so badly informed that want Cambodia to learn from Singapore. Aren't they aware that Lee Kwan Yew based the national rehabilitation of his country on what he saw in Cambodia under Sihanouk. In fact, when he broke away from the Malay Federation, he wanted to base his exiled government in Phnom Penh, because he admired so much the work of Norodom Sihanouk for Cambodia. Please go an educate yourselves before making silly/stupid/insulting remarks which do not help at all Cambodia.
