Ten political parties will vie for commune chiefdom in the upcoming June 3 elections, the National Election Committee’s official preliminary candidate report said yesterday.

The 10 political parties that submitted preliminary candidate lists to the NEC were all accepted to run in the Kingdom’s third-ever commune election, according to the report.

Cambodia has 1,633 communes and only the ruling Cambodian Peoples Party has indicated it will run candidates in every commune.

Opposition Sam Rainsy Party was the second-most ambitious party, with plans to run candidates in 1,621 communes.

Funcinpec, Human Rights Party and Norodom Ranariddh Party each indicated they will run candidates in more than 1,000 communes.

The remaining parties contending are the Alliance for Democracy Party, Democratic Movement Party, Cambodian Nationality Party, Khmer Anti-Poverty Party, and the Republican Democracy Party.

Official candidate lists are still being finalised, the NEC said.

SRP spokesman Yim Sovann said the party intended to submit 20,000 candidates to the NEC while CPP Central Committee member Cheam Yeap said the ruling party would put forward 12,000 candidates and 12,000 reserve candidates for the elections.

i think it is ok to run for office in cambodia, but to be effective and competent, srp people need to change or reform their strategy and be smarter, wiser, and more enlightened and do learn from their past failure or success, etc... and stay in cambodia, don't live overseas because people want to see you stay and work in cambodia. otherwise, they lose confidence and trust in your party if you still doing the same way. of course, cambodia all people to work together and help to make cambodia a better country withh reforms in all areas. we all can use that and will benefit for that. a strong cambodia requires that all khmer people from all walks of life work together, etc... it is ok to think differently and have variety of philosophical approach to problem solving, social skills, etc... in fact that is better when we encourage differences and variety and diversity, etc in cambodia. we can love and care about cambodia in many ways, it doesn't have to be your way or my way or what have we, to goal is to make cambodia strong, developed, preserved, modernized and so forth. as leaders, i think we all have to train ourselves to think above and beyond. yes, always keep in mind that there are more to cambodia than you and i. we should make cambodia an attrative country in most way. that's how our country can become famous. remember after our independence from france colony, khmer people under sihanouk regime was able to stand together, work together, united, etc, that's what made khmer and our country strong and developed then, it was the unity among us, and the good leadership as well of course. but it's not just leadership alone, it was also unity and having a rule of law, believe it or not. so, i think khmer people still have that ability to make cambodia into a strong, vibrant society and economy again when we stop struggling and come together, train together, get better education, better healthcare, have better infrastructure for our cambodia, etc. it is time to stop hurting our country. we have such a beautiful, rich country, yet, we are too busy fighting each other and not realizing how lucky be are to have such a beautiful land and country that we called cambodia. our leaders and our gov't system need reform and we have a lot of work to do to shape and educate our people and country. we should leave personal issue aside and instill in all of us good ethics, professionalism, respect the rule of law, respect each other because we all love and care about cambodia and want our country to attractive good more tourists from all over the world to come to enjoy our country, culture, etc... we should be proud of who we are as khmer, instead of too busy fighting among ourselves and fail to learn from our inexperiences, etc... i wish the best for cambodia to come together to develop cambodia for all to live, work, enjoy, etc... may god bless and help all khmer people and cambodia to realize this and come together as one.

it is one thing to compete during open season, but keep in mind when the hunting season is over, learn to work together like in america, for the sake of national unite, that's the goal, not any other way. know the rule and know it well, there is a limit to every thing; know when to stop and when to start, that's the rule, and it's not anybody's rule, it the law. be respectful of the rule of law, ok!
