A delegation from the Cambodian province of Kratie on December 28 held talks with leaders of the Binh Phuoc Provincial People’s Council, highlighting developments and cooperation in the region.

During the meeting, leaders from the border provinces expressed delight at the growing friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia in general and between Kratie and the southern province of Binh Phuoc in particular.

They agreed that authorities of both provinces have incessantly strengthened bilateral relations by exchanging delegations on a regular basis, signing cooperation agreements and working together for the implementation of border landmark plantation as agreed by the governments of both countries.

They have also facilitated entry and exit procedures for people from Binh Phuoc and Kratie to travel across the shared border.

Kratie is a north-eastern province of Cambodia that borders Vietnam to the south.

Road links Binh Phuoc, Kampong Cham provinces [now opened for traffic]

A road connecting Vietnam’s southern Binh Phuoc Province and Cambodia’s Kongpong Cham Province opened to traffic on April 22.

The road is part of a 32-km transport system connecting Cambodia’s Highway No. 7 and Binh Phuoc Province.

The 7.2 billion VND system also includes a bridge built by Binh Phuoc province across Tonle Cham river to link the two province

Kratie-Kampong Cham provinces: VN erected 7 landmarks along the border with Cambodia

Binh Phuoc: Seven landmarks erected on borderline with Cambodia

The southwestern province of Binh Phuoc has completed the planting of seven landmarks at five positions on the Vietnam-Cambodia borderline.

The two sides have defined the location for 13 landmarks at nine positions along their borderline.

Most of major works around the 69th landmark at the Hoa Lu International Border Gate in Loc Ninh District [KI-Media: next to Snuol in Kampong Cham province] have been finished while the construction work on the seven remaining landmarks is scheduled for completion in April this year.

Under an overall plan on Vietnam-Cambodia demarcation and landmark planting approved by the Prime Minister, Binh Phuoc Province is entrusted to plant a total of 26 landmarks at 18 positions in three districts of Phuoc Long, Loc Ninh and Bu Dop.

Vietnam and Cambodia's provinces tighten border security

Border police forces of Vietnam's southern Binh Phuoc province and Cambodia's Kratie province have signed a cooperation programme to strengthen border security in 2007.

Under the programme, the two forces will regularly exchange information relating to border security protection including transfrontier crimes, in addition to boosting border inspection in order to control illegal smuggling.

The two provinces' border police forces will be in charge of the security of Vietnam and Cambodia's officials implementing border demarcation and marker planting.

Information will also be further exchanged between Vietnam's Bonue and Cambodia's Tapengse international border gates.
