Phnom Penh – Sao Rany, the secretary-general of the NRP, said in a press conference held on 22 July 2012 that, on 23 July 2012, he will ask the Phnom Penh municipal court to suspend the NRP to prevent the latter from creating a mess.
Those involved should show up, Sao Rany said while claiming that, in the court request to suspend the NRP, he has all the necessary proof, however, he cannot talk about this yet as of now.
Sao Rany explained: “The suspension of the NRP [is requested] so that it cannot sack people at will, and we are blocking its path for now so that it cannot undertake this [sacking] anymore. I have no intention to betray Samdach Krom Preah, I was faithful to him since 2006 and I almost lost the bottom of my pants, my wife almost kicked me out of the house. At the end, I am only left with hurtful feelings. He twisted my neck to the back, he illegally kicked me out. What did I do wrong? All of us are almost starving to follow the prince. The final results: he illegally sacked us.”

Royal party seeks to oust leader

The upper echelon of Norodom Ranariddh’s own party is publicly urging the leader to step down so officials can revive a moribund merger with Funcinpec.
The move, officials from both sides say, would free up the parties to negotiate without the clashes between Ranariddh and Funcinpec head Nhek Bun Chhay that have upended previous mergers.
Sao Rany, an NRP lawmaker and secretary-general of the party, told the Post that the act was a negotiation strategy to build up power before next year’s national election.
“I see that if we do not merge, we will die in 2013,” Rany said. In June’s commune elections, Funcinpec and NRP had an abysmal showing.

Pen Sangha, the NRP spokesman, told Rasmei Kampuchea that the NRP extraordinary congress was held this past Saturday. The party decided to change its name from NRP to the “Nationalist Party” and it approved Chhim Siek Leng as the new party president. Besides selecting a new party president, the congress also selected 2 new party vice-presidents: You Hockry, the no. 1 party VP, and Pok Than, the no. 2 party VP. NRP MP Sao Rany from Prey Veng province was nominated as the party secretary-general. Nhiek Bun Chhay, Funcinpec secretary-general, and several other high-ranking Funcinpec officials were also guests at the congress. Pen Sangha indicated that the congress was held to change the party name only, there was no merger with Funcinpec yet, but the two royalist parties are cooperating with each other, as stipulated in the MOU between the two parties on 30 January 2009.
