Overseas Vietnamese associations in Cambodia have been more and more strengthened following the successful organization of the first congress of the General Association of the Vietnamese Cambodians in 2011.

Representatives of the Vietnamese Business Association in Cambodia , the Cambodia-Vietnam-Laos economic cooperation development association and Chairmen of 15 overseas Vietnamese associations in Cambodia provinces and cities gathered in Phnom Penh on January 14 to review the general association’s activities last year.

After the congress, the general association continue to strengthen relations with local authorities and set up relations with many Vietnamese provinces and cities, especially those in the border areas.

First they invaded Cambodia, then they occupied Cambodia for more than one decade ... now only the "dong" currency is used instead of the Khmer "riel"

The following report is filed by DAP-news a mouthpiece of the ruling CPP regime which was installed in power by the Vietnamese army. This is the situation in Cambodia nowadays under this puppet regime led by Hun Xen!

A number of flowers and various goods have been exported to Cambodia to serve the demand of overseas Vietnamese on the threshold of the Lunar New Year.

Among the exports are nearly 1,000 apricot blossom trees, 3,000 roses, plus daisy and marigold pots. This is the first time flowers were exported to Cambodia, which have helped flower planters boost overseas flowers trading.

Moreover, foods including traditional ones such as onion and watermelon, household commodities and clothes were also exported with average exporting quantity reaching roughly 1,000 tonnes per day.

Doctors from the Ho Chi Minh City-based Hoa Tam charity and the Reasmey Kompong Som Clinic on January 8 provided free check-ups and medicines for 200 poor Vietnamese people in Cambodia’s Preah Siahnouk province.

On the occasion, Hoa Tam presented gifts, each worth VND200,000 to 150 poor patients.

In August 2010, it examined and presented gifts to 150 Vietnamese patients in the Tonle Sap region.

The Phnom Penh police gathered and confiscated more than 100 leaflets that were spread out near Wat Phnom Park, right in the middle of Phnom Penh City, and at another public park located in Chaktokmouk commune.

Touch Naroth, the PPenh police commissioner, indicated on 11 August that the police confiscated leaflets and arrested one person who was suspected of spreading out these leaflet.

Touch Naroth said that the arrested man is currently in detention and under questioning to find out the source and the group that are behind them.

The leaflet content which RFA received included: “The Cambodian Nation is facing danger from the Vietnamese policy and that of the traitors who sold the lands and waters.” The leaflets indicated that the names of the traitors are Heng Xamrin, Chea Xim and Hun Xen.

The leaflet added that the Vietnamese people are flowing to live in Cambodia without any passport and they came in as tourists or through the Viet associations established throughout the 24 provinces and municipalities in Cambodia. There are also Viet troops being sent to Preah Vihear temple to help Cambodia in the Preah Vihear dispute [with Thailand], as well as to protect the investing [Viet] companies that are grabbing lands from the Cambodian people.

The leaflet also indicated that, to swallow Cambodian territories, Vietnam uses its spies to kill Cambodians by poisoning, by using [harmful] chemicals in food, and by creating various diseases etc…

The leaflet calls on Cambodians to unite and stand up to chase out Vietnam and remove the CPP leaders from power.

The computer-printed leaflets include the Cambodian flag with 3 stars on it, and the header reads “Voice of Nationalist Khmer”.

Chan Soveth, an investigator for the Adhoc human rights group, said that the distribution of these leaflets is merely one form of expression only if its distributions do not create havoc in the society. They are merely advises from the author(s) of these leaflets and they should be released [if they are arrested].

The cops indicated that such leaflet distribution is the first of such event in 2010.

The distribution of these anti-Viet and anti-CPP leaders is taking place at a time when Hun Xen and Abishit Vejjajiva, the Thai PM, are having a war of words stemming from border dispute in the Preah Vihear temple area, in particular, when the Thai leader threatened to use armed force to attack Cambodia.

Why can HCM get involved with VN in Cambodia while PPenh cannot get involved with Khmer Krom in VN?

Ho Chi Minh City donates communal house to expats in Cambodia

The Vietnamese Community Association in Cambodia on September 26 inaugurated a communal house built by the Ho Chi Minh City Association in Support of Poor Patients at a cost of US$11,000.

The house is a gift to overseas Vietnamese living in Phach Sangday village, Kompong Svay district, Kompong Thom province, by the Tonle Sap lake.

The donor went on to present a variety of gifts at the inauguration ceremony, including rice, sugar and instant noodles for families in need during the rainy season.

The 60 square metre wide, moveable communal house is made of timber and floats on the surface of the lake, making it suitable for people living on water resources. It is used as a conference hall for the local Vietnamese community to hold meetings and gatherings during traditional festivals, for wedding parties or memorial ceremonies.

It is the third such gift given by homeland donors to overseas Vietnamese living on the Tonle Sap lake.

The Overseas Vietnamese taskforce of the Vietnamese Embassy and the Vietnamese Community Association are planning to raise funds for another five communal houses to be donated to overseas Vietnamese living in other parts of the Tonle Sap lake.
