Fans of Prime Minister Hun Sen’s five-hour, 20-minute address on the Vietnamese border issue last week are in luck – they’ll soon be able to have their own copy.
Speaking yesterday to graduates of Build Bright University, the premier said he plans to release his one-man show in video disc, audio CD and book form in both Khmer and English.
The offering, he said, is both for those wishing to understand Cambodia’s longstanding border dispute with its neighbour, and for the opposition Sam Rainsy Party, which has long criticised his treatment of it.
“Even if I explained it to [the SRP] for 10,000 times or 100,000 times, they still do not understand,” said Hun Sen. “[You] think that Hun Sen would be tired to death because of a five hour and 20 minute speech. I can continue for two more hours with more topics, but I thought that listeners would be hungry.”

He explained that in some respective areas in Cambodia and Vietnam, villages had been swapped and land had been exchanged, but that on the whole, no land had been lost.
PHNOM PENH - After Prime Minister Hun Sen’s appearance Thursday before the National Assembly to explain his border policy, many Cambodians in Phnom Penh say believe no land has been lost to Vietnam.
Hun Sen had encouraged people to watch his remarks, which lasted for five hours and were broadcast live on state TV, as he addressed concerns that border agreements had ceded land to Cambodia’s neighbor to the east.
He explained that in some respective areas in Cambodia and Vietnam, villages had been swapped and land had been exchanged, but that on the whole, no land had been lost. Hun Sen also said that Cambodians are occupying more than 2,100 hectares of land that rightfully belongs to Vietnam, while Vietnamese are living on nearly 1,000 hectares of land that rightfully belongs to Cambodia, the Phnom Penh Post reported.

Sometimes austere, other times ebullient, Prime Minister Hun Sen spent his rare, more than five-hour speech to parliament yesterday outlining a border demarcation plan with Vietnam and taunting the opposition before refusing to answer anything other than written questions.
Peppered with vitriolic outbursts at his critics, the premier’s speech to 103 lawmakers at the National Assembly focused on a plan for Cambodia and Vietnam to compensate one another with unoccupied land for villages it had been agreed fell in the opposing country’s territory.
“The choice is that we must keep the same situation according to the occupation [of areas] of people,” he said.
Land for exchange in Kampot, Kampong Cham and Takeo provinces had already been agreed upon by the two countries, while negotiations to do the same in Prey Veng and Svay Rieng provinces were under way, Hun Sen told the parliament.

- ជាមួយគ្នានេះ សម្តេច បានមានប្រសាសន៍ថា សម្តេចបានត្រៀមខ្លួនរួចជាស្រេច ដើម្បីឆ្លើយបំភ្លឺទាក់ទិន នឹងបញ្ហានៅក្នុងរដ្ឋសភា ប៉ុន្តែរហូតមកដល់ពេលនេះ សម្តេចបានសរសេរលិខិតទៅរដ្ឋសភារួចហើយ តែ រដ្ឋសភាមិនទាន់ឆ្លើយតបមកវិញនោះទេ ថា តើឲ្យសម្តេចចូលទៅឆ្លើយបំភ្លឺនៅពេលណា។ ហើយសម្តេច បានបញ្ជាក់ថា សម្តេចនឹងនិយាយរយៈពេល៤ម៉ោង ដើម្បីបកស្រាយជុំវិញបញ្ហានេះ ហើយសម្តេចនឹង ពន្យល់ពីដំណាក់កាលនីមួយៗ ពាក់ព័ន្ធនឹងបញ្ហាព្រំដែនហ្នឹង។ ជាមួយគ្នានេះ សម្តេច ហ៊ុន សែន បានរិះ គន់ទៅអតីតអ្នកនយោបាយមួយរូប នៅក្នុងសម័យសម័យសារធារណរដ្ឋខ្មែរ ដែលគេស្គាល់ច្បាស់ថា លោក ស៊ាន ប៉ែង សែ កាលកាក់តំណែងជារដ្ឋមន្រ្តី នៅសម័យសារធារណរដ្ឋខ្មែរ ហេតុអ្វីមិនទៅវ៉ៃយកកោះវ៉ៃ ដែលកាលនោះ វៀតណាម ខាងត្បូងជាអ្នកគ្រប់គ្រង បានត្រឹមតែសរសេរនៅក្នុងផែនទី។ ហើយទាក់ទងនឹងការឆ្លើយបំភ្លឺនេះ សម្តេច ចង់ឲ្យផ្សាយបន្តផ្ទាល់គ្រប់ទូរទស្សន៍ទាំងអស់។

PHNOM PENH- There is very little to say about Cambodia Angkor Air (CAA) beside the fact that most clients probably will even not remember the name of the carrier. Since July 2009, CAA is officially the national carrier of the Kingdom of Cambodia, a carrier born thanks to an agreement setting a joint venture between the Cambodian State (51%) and Vietnam Airlines (49 %). The airline is in reality a proxy of the Vietnamese national carrier Vietnam Airlines. The four aircraft in the fleet –ATR 72 and Airbus A321- come from Vietnam and all the management is Vietnamese. Looking at CAA network, the airline serves only three cities out of Siem Reap: Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville and Ho Chi Minh City. Despite promising at the beginning to serve more international destinations with one or two years- they were rumours about Bangkok, Singapore and China soon to be added. By mid-2012, the network looks basically the same than in 2010, Sihanoukville excepted. The route serving Cambodia’s largest seaside resort was in fact requested by the government to set up a proper air connection to what is considered as Cambodia’s third largest destination.

“The Sam Rainsy Party absolutely opposes to any decision to cut Khmer land to Vietnam”
Cambodia and Vietnam’s border shuffle in Kampong Cham province will involve more than the two previously discussed villages, a government official said yesterday, and will include farmland intended to compensate Vietnam for land being farmed by Cambodian farmers on what is believed to be the Vietnamese side of the border.
Va Kimhong, a senior minister in charge of the Cambodian Border Committee, told the Post that a number of areas have been identified in which Cambodian farmland encroaches onto Vietnamese territory. (sic!)
