On the eve of Hun Sen's departure to Hanoi to sign an additional convention to the 1985 Treaty between the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (SRV) and the People's Republic of Kampuchea (PRK), a large number of Cambodian-American from different US states (Virgina, Washington DC, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, etc...), young and not too young, have gathered in front of the Cambodian Embassy in Washington to voice their protest against this latest submission of Cambodian territories to Vietnam, its former occupier. The press release distributed by the demonstrators stated the following demand:
  1. We, strongly ask Hun Sen and the delegation to stop signing any additional treaty with Vietnam and want Hun Sen and Government to comply with the Paris Peace Agreement of October 1991, "Agreement concerning the Sovereignty, Independence, Territorial Integrity, and inviolability, Neutrality, and national unity of Cambodia" which they have respectively signed fourteen years ago.
  2. We, strongly ask Cambodian Parliamentary to stop ratifying any treaty between Cambodia and Vietnam.
  3. We want King Sihamoni to void any treaty between Cambodia and Vietnam.
  4. The Cambodia Borders Committee in USA likes to reiterate once again requests to the Cambodian Government and the Parliament to declare null and void the treaties and accords of 1979 - 1991, concluded between the SRV and PRK during the Vietnamese occupation of Cambodia, which is actually the cause of Cambodia destabilization. The committee also likes to ask the Government to advise Thailand to scrupulously respect the international boundary of 1907 between Thailand and Cambodia, or to immediately refer the matter to the U.N’s Security Council and the ICJ on the unilateral modification of the international boundary.
