To Samdech Hun Sen Prime Minister of the Royal Government of Cambodia

Samdech,

I am very pleased to note that the political situation in Cambodia had eased in the past few days. I thank Samdech for pushing this development, in particular, your letter writing to the King asking him to reduce the sentence of Mr. Cheam Channy following your request to the court to release from jail a number of civil society leaders.

As for me, I have the same viewpoint as Samdech, that is I want to see again the reconciliation and the unification of nation in order to gather all Khmer forces to build Cambodia and make her more prosperous. I also have the same viewpoint as Samdech that in all disputes between Khmers, we should resolve it within the Khmer family.

I regret having acted improperly towards Samdech, like the accusation saying Samdech Prime Minister was behind the grenade throwing on the group of protesters on 30 March 1997 in front of the National Assembly, like the accusation that Samdech Prime Minister intended to kill five well known people, and a number of other accusations against Samdech Prime Minister, etc… From now on, I will change my attitude to end all these issues, and avoid having these issues happening again. Overall, I have decided not to let personal issue be the most important matter, instead, I should focus on national issue which must be solved peacefully and respectfully to each other. The resolution of all national issues will not require that there is a winner and a looser because we are all Khmer who must live with each other. Only Cambodia and Cambodians win over this kind of national unification, in particular, winning over poverty and regress. Our children will all see a better future.

Samdech please accept my utmost regards.

Sam Rainsy (signed)
