The pardon measures adopted by the prime minister with respect to prisoners, the accused, and those sued for defamation; his very firm declarations against corruption; his welcoming attitude towards the SRP … raised many questions.

For example: Hun Sen is really determined to reduce corruption and he judges the SRP, which has long used this subject as its battle rally, as useful in this battle.

Another issue: they are the [international] funds providers who have convinced the PM to make peace with the opposition, they have imposed this condition for the follow up of their help. On the eve of the Consultative Group (CG) meeting (on March 2nd, and 3rd), this message was well received since the government score card on human rights, and corruption did not look too good.

Another issue: the PM noted that if he wants westerners to invest, he has to improve the image of Cambodia in the area of legislation, justice, democracy, and human rights. By curbing Sam Rainsy who commands listening audience in western countries, the PM is disarming his critics.

On the other hand, internally, he no longer needs to care, to coax the Funcinpec: the CPP holds very well the reins [of the government]; angering Funcinpec will not bring in retribution.

Another interpretation: making place for the SRP is equivalent to further weakening the Funcinpec. A very good maneuver, and the prime minister rekindles the hidden dispute, the competition between the two political formations [SRP and Funcinpec]. The CPP will stand to gain from this battle.

“Global peace this time!” the fox announced to the titmouse in a soft voice in La Fontaine’s tale. The titmouse remains suspicious nonetheless.

Hun Sen's main strategy is to manipulate Cambodian people from border concerning sensitivity. He has made a loss of Cambodian border to neighbor countries a lot. He tries to hide his fault and error...but how can he do? Cambodian young people will denounce his fool and ignorance in exchanging his power with the power he got..
