A high ranking Funcinpec official said that the candidate for the second vice-president had been switched from Princess Norodom Vacheara to Mr. You Hockry.
Chhim Seak Leng, Funcinpec deputy secretary-general, confirmed on Tuesday 14 March the request for the candidate change which was made on Tuesday afternoon.
The sudden candidate change for the position of second vice-president of the National Assembly from Princess Vacheara to Mr. You Hcokry had caused quite a stir on Princess Vacheara.
The princess said on Tuesday that she almost could not believe this sudden change: “I don’t understand it also, Samdech Krom Preah [Norodom Ranariddh] believed that I am competent to hold the position of second vice-president of the National Assembly, so I accepted the candidacy. I did not know about Samdech Krom Preah pulling out my candidacy and replace it with that of H.E. You Hockry. I cannot believe it at all.”
On Tuesday, Chhim Seak Leng, Funcinpec deputy secretary-general confirmed the switching of the candidates. However, there was no indication as to why the change was made, even Chhim Seak Leng himself did not know the cause.
Chhim Seak Leng said: “This story is true, but I don’t know why. I only saw the official letter of Samdech Krom Preah addressed to the interim president of the National Assembly, Samdech Heng Samrin.”
The nomination of the candidate for the second vice-president of the National Assembly follows the resignation of Samdech Krom Preah Norodom Ranariddh who attributed this resignation to the need of strengthening the Funcinpec party again.
The recent changes of the situation in the past few weeks stem from Funcinpec wanting to shuffle positions between a number of high ranking party officials. This shuffling caused a number of criticisms, even among Funcinpec itself.
