Prince Ranariddh, Funcinpec president, recognized yesterday, his responsibility in the crumbling of the political weight of his party, in particular at the National Assembly. He then presented a 10-point improvement program which features a call to the strengthening of the cooperation with the CPP within the government. “Let’s not be afraid to recognize our errors and our weaknesses. That is the Funcinpec culture,” the Prince indicated during a speech given at the groundbreaking ceremony of the new party headquarters. “The presidency of the party is the locomotive, and the secretariat [of the party] its headquarter, and the locomotive is not managed properly. If the locomotive does not work, how can the headquarter move forward properly?” the Prince said in front of his militants.

To redress the situation, he presented a 10-point plan in which he calls on Funcinpec members to subscribe their action within the framework of supporting the policy led by the coalition government. He added: “We have to encourage those who serve the party well and punish the culprits.” While tension still remains between Hun Sen and the Funcinpec party, especially following the resignation of Prince Ranariddh from his position as president of the National Assembly, the prince wished to minimize the differences between Hun Sen and himself. “All of that are merely observers’ comments. What count are the position and the determination of Funcinpec. I say that we still base ourselves on the historical agreement signed [between the Funcinpec and the CPP] on 30 June 2004,” the prince reacted. The Funcinpec president had also announced that Princess Norodom Vacheara would be his party’s candidate to the position of second vice-president of the National Assembly. “Chea Sim, the CPP president, told me that he would provide his support to Princess Vacheara,” Norodom Ranariddh assured.
