Two Russei Keo district police officers were invited for questioning separately at municipal police headquarters on Friday and Saturday over the alleged selling or exchanging of firearms, police said Monday. Suong Yern, police chief for Prek Tasek commune, said by telephone that his officer Chea Sarom was called in for questioning Saturday for allegedly selling weapons at his military uniform shop at Toek Thla military surplus market. He said that he had not noticed any weapons for sale at Chea Sarom's shop before, but added that he had not seen the officer for a long time because he had not been at work due to illness. "I could not oversee him well," Suong Yern said. Chea Sarom was to be released Monday, said Reach Sokhon, deputy municipal judicial police chief. Russei Keo district police officer Ou Chanthol was called in for questioning over allegations that he had swapped weapons, Reach Sokhon said. Ou Chanthol was released Saturday, he stated, adding that both men have been disciplined. Police denied Khmer-language newspaper reports that Ou Chanthol was brought in for questioning over suspicion that one of his relatives had used his K-54' handgun to fatally shoot someone. "They were not arrested. They were called for questioning," said district police chief Chey Soseila.
