Gov't Knows Bank Can't Name Names

Monday, June 26, 2006

Letter to the Editors of The Cambodia Daily

The article "Hun Sen Wants World Bank to Name Sources" (Thursday, page 1) saddens me. I am sure the government knows the World Bank cannot release the names of its sources, not only to ensure their safety but also to preserve its own business ethics. The government’s demand is impossible and must have made the witnesses feel very cold. This is obvious in the Cambodian context.

What was the intention of the demand? Is it to fight corruption or defend it? The World Bank should not give up its principles. Rather, it should disclose some hard evidence that cannot be disputed.

This might include documents and details of badly constructed projects. If there are any of these, put them on the Web site so that the media can use them to educate the public. Without doing this, the Bank is in a very bad position regarding the public.

Hun Sen must undferstand of international law for protecting the whistleblower. Hun Sen is now has no choice to investigate the whole thing which we call a probe to corruption.

Hun Sen acted like he doesn't know what is going on within his government. He asked for the name of the whistle blower so he can get rid of that person. As the world know and all the Cambodian people know that Hun Sen's government are the most corrupted official in the world. As for Mr. Ouk Darareaksmei, please wake up and smell the cofee, you know that the story is true. Hun Sen and his corrupted cronies getting so fat as the day go by.
