Cambodia's prime minister Hun Sen has threatened to cut the throats of officials found guilty of corruption amid a growing scandal over World Bank funds.
Speaking to villagers at a ceremony in northwestern Cambodia, he also demanded the bank prove that millions of dollars have been stolen from its projects.
The AFP newsagency says the premier, who has a reputation for mixing dark humour with an autocratic style of leadership, stressed it had been four weeks since the World Bank made the initial allegations of corruption.
"I am full up to here with this World Bank issue - where are the irregularities?" Hun Sen said.
Cambodian officials maintain they have been given no evidence to support the claims which resulted in the suspension of funding for three aid projects and demands for the government to pay back $US7.6 million.
"If something is found to be wrong, I will cut your throat," Hun Sen told officials seated behind him at the ceremony.
The premier's warning came one day after the government said it would repay less than a quarter of the money the World Bank says is missing after the discovery of irregularities in seven poverty reduction and infrastructure projects.
The bank currently funds development projects worth about $244 million in Cambodia.
