Three of the concrete posts surrounding Wat Phnom were damaged when a luxury Lexus SUV carrying the son of RCAF General Kao Try spun out of control and smashed into a protective barrier and a tree at the city's historic pagoda, police said Tuesday.
Police said the vehicle was traveling at high speed when it turned right off Norodom Boulevard and crashed into Wat Phnom Saturday evening, said Mao Sony, deputy municipal traffic police chief.
Mao Sony said Kao Try's son was not injured but police reported that he acted aggressively when they arrived at the scene.
"I heard on the [police] radio that he was using derogatory words against police and a journalist," Mao Sony said.
Pivh Socheata, deputy governor of Daun Penh district said Kao Try has promised to pay for the repairs. Pich Socheata said she was not impressed with the behavior of the general's son, who she alleged grabbed a journalist by the hair after the crash. She also said that she was offended by the "harsh words" used by both Kao Try, who arrived at the scene, and his son.
"I walked away because I could not bear the words," she added.
Kao Try denied that his son was driving the car or that the Lexus had been racing. He also denied that his son manhandled a journalist or that strong words were directed at Pich Socheata and the police.
"My son did not grab anyone by the hair," Kao Try said, adding that poor lighting around Wat Phnom contributed to the crash.
On Monday night another vehicle crashed at the same spot at Wat Phnom, though no one was hurt, Mao Sony said.

These people probably never learnt how to drive, and because their fathers are high ranking government officials, they can do very much anything they want include killing innocence people. These son of bitches should be kidnapped one by one and have their testicals removed then release on a crowded street naked.
You know, I really want to join force with someone who wants to get rid of these high rank children in Cambodia, not in Phnom Penh alone. There are a lot of innocents people getting kill on the street and at school because of ignorence high rank government sons or daughters used their parent's name to get away. Cambodia is lawless country no matter you try, they are still getting away easily as long as they have their parent's names in it. For example two or three years ago, Hun Sen nephew killed someone now where is he. Watch out most of them, they are here in United States their parents sent them to come to study without knowing how to read or write, maybe we start to clean up from here and demend them for money to pay back for those who got hurt the most. I will be you for no time, let me know if any one would like to join me.
Ya, i like that idea. I will be happy to join you too if we can do that. I really want to teach those bastard bitches.
They have no moral in hearts...that A Hun Sen regimes`most officials.
THAT SHOULD BE LAW FOR CARELESS AND OVER SPEED DRIVING YOU FOOL CPP!
