A Royalist Funcinpec party's top official Monday reacts to Sangkum Reast Niyum's [Note: it's Sangkum Cheat Niyum] leader, Prince Sisowath Thomico's comment, who appeals to have the royalist party dissolved, saying it is an act of looking down on the party's founder, former King Norodom Sihanouk.

This reaction was made after Prince Thomico, former King Sihanouk's personal secretary and cousin, on Sunday pushed Funcinpec's leader, Prince Norodom Ranariddh, to dissolve his internal conflict ridden party, before the upcoming election next year.

Funcinpec's general secretary, Nhek Bun Chhay told VOA that Prince Thomico's appeal is a political maneuver to divide this party and get the votes for his newly formed party.

He says that this appeal is a form of looking down on the Funcinpec party, on those who sacrifice their lives for the nation, religion, and the King, and that even though the Funcinpec party is facing internal conflicts, it cannot be dissolved.

Cambodia Center for Human Rights' (CCHR) director, Kem Sokha says that Prince Thomico's action is to get Prince Ranariddh's popularity, and that it is a farce that the two royalist parties should have conflicts. He says that Prince Thomico forms a new party in order to grab the royalist's role, meaning competing with Prince Norodom Ranariddh.

Director of Cambodian election monitoring group, Comfrel, Kul Panha says that political parties' competition leads to mud slingings, therefore Prince Thomico's suggestion is to get Prince Ranariddh's party's popularity.

Prince Thomico alleges that his party is also a royalist party. He says that he is a royalist. Mr. Kul Panha says that there are two royalist parties, and that in this case one has to go.

Prime Minister Hun Sen's Cambodian People's Party (CPP), and opposition Sam Rainsy party (SRP) used to announce in the past that hundreds of Funcinpec members joined them. Observers say that this trend had two goals: to the CPP, so that they can keep their positions in the government, and to SRP for democracy's good name.

Currently Funcinpec party is facing controversial internal conflicts and its members criticize Prince Ranariddh's leadership. This royalist party does not seem to have a leader when the prince left the country to go abroad last week.

the election in 2008 will be the first time in khmer history since the pol pot that khmer will have a chance to break youn's bondage. It will be the first time that a party besides the CPP can win priminister seat in the Cambodia. Hun Sen knows it when he made that speech that he will gladly step down to the winner of that election. Even youn knows it. why else would the viets want to try to hurry up with the border issue? Because they worry they might not have Hun Sen to deal with after 2008.

with all that knowledge, why would a buffoon thamico still want to split the vote and give the election to hun sen? instead of uniting and putting the best man on the priminister seat, thamico and his buffoons want to take away votes from the cpp opposition. why? can someone tell him face to face that he is not a leader, he can not lead, he doesn't know how to lead, he's incompetent, he's making a big mistake, and he's destroying cambodia?

If this kind of Royal Family is noxious and traitor to Cambodians.
I wondered if it would be better for us to exist without them?
