THE CAMBODIA DAILY
Prince Norodom Ranariddh revealed Saturday that a group had attempted to oust him from the Funcinpec's presidency, officially confirming for the first time serious divisions at the heart of his troubled royalist party.
Addressing more than 1,000 supports and officials at Funcinpec headquarters in Phnom Penh, Prince Ranariddh also said that he was grieved by Prime Minister Hun Sen's removal of scores of royalist officials from government jobs, but said it was important to remain calm in the face of such adversity.
The prince appealed for a truce between his party's warring factions.
"It was very painful to see them remove Funcinpec officials," the prince told those who attended the reception to mark his return to Cambodia after five months abroad.
"Especially the provincial governors and deputy governors. I was very hurt by this injustice. But I stayed calm for the sake of the country's stability," Prince Ranariddh said.
"If Funcinpec dares to move, there will be a chaotic situation like in 1997," he added.
Addressing the unnamed group that attempted to have him removed as Funcinpec president Prince Ranariddh said he would only step aside after a national congress and the election of a new president.
"Some people wanted Ranariddh to be the honorary president," he told the crowd.
"The congress unanimously voted for me. They named me president for life. If you strip the [historical president], it means that you remove the history of Funcinpec's struggle," he added.
Conspicuously absent from Saturday's event was Funcinpec Minister of Rural Development Lu Lysreng.
Contacted on Sunday, Lu Lysreng denied that he had led the faction seeking to strip the prince of his presidency, but added that the prince had acted foolishly by stepping down as president of the National Assembly in March.
"He resigned without discussion with senior officials and that has led to disaster," Lu Lysreng said by telephone. He also accused the prince of listening only to young and inexperienced officials who have gathered around him.
"I have a strategy that will lead Funcinpec to win in the election," Lu Lysreng said.
"Prince Ranariddh has led Funcinpec to failure all the time. I am not a sheep that listens to him all the time. If I think something is wrong I will not obey," he said.
Ok Socheat an adviser to Prince Ranariddh, said that Lu Lysreng should resign from the party and accused him of leading the call for the prince to accept the impotent role of honorary president. "It is good for the party if he leaves," Ok Socheat added.
Though Hun Sen had threatened Funcinpec provincial officials with sacking if they traveled to Phnom Penh for Saturday's reception, Information Minister Khieu Kanharith said the royalist officials had nothing to fear on their day off work.
"[Hun Sen] was talking about working hours—it is not related to Saturday and Sunday," he said.

You know when a dog is back into the corner and it will jump and bite you back! But for Prince Ranariddh, he is a dog that ask for truce!
In the arena of politic, I don't see any politicians rearly have a chance to survive the political career after making mistake twice! If any opponent of Prince Ranariddh want take advantage and end the Prince Ranariddh political career forever and take full victory over Cambodia political establishment and this is the time! This is the time to step on him, to stab him in the back, and to bleed him to death. This is the time to kick him until he says no more!ahahahah!
Ranariddth is such a coward! He said there will be a chaotic situation like in 1997! This is pure bullshit! Here is why! In 1997, Teng Bunma a fucken Thai businessman and the damn Vietcong help funded AH HUN SEN to stage a coup! Didn't AH HOC LUNDY and AH HUN SEN stay in Vietname during the coup? Yeh! You guess it right!
In 2006, AH TENG BUNMA is six feet under! The Khmer Rouge trail is closing in on AH HUN SEN and the damning allegation made by former top police chief AH HENG PEOV on AH HUN SEN had ruin everything AH HUN SEN had been working for his entire life!
Now I fullly understand that Prince Ranariddh want stability so that he and AH HUN SEN can commit more corruption! Tell me how many cars, planes, and helicopters and bitches does Prince Ranariddh and AH HUN SEN have? I suggest these fool better start using those cars, those planes, and those helicopter to get out the country now! When the anti-corruption law pass, they will find themselves doing some times in a special place called Prey Sar!ahahahah
Lu Lay Sreng has been a troublemaker for many years. When he was in charge of the Ministry of Information he did nothing to help built a free and independent Cambodian press. He was known then as the "Minister for Commerce" because he was involved in doing personal business deals. He is the CIA man in FUNCINPEC. The CIA has always used Sinoe-Khmers to do their dirty work for them.
Yes, Ranariddh has behaved badly but he is not a criminal like Hun Sen and I believe that he has finally learnt a bitter leasson.
take a closer look at the picture of Minister of Rural Development!
The man from Long Beach, California - nothing but a bunch of bullshit!
Pouk Ah Neak Bom Plaenh Jeat!
There isn't any vocabulary word that sticks in head "Chouy Jeat". None whatsoever!
