A 46-year-old widowed Cambodian woman who has just been fired from her job by the owner of the Chamkar Andaung rubber plantations (Kompong Cham province), is requesting human rights NGOs as well as the government authority and the former monarch [Norodom Sihanouk] to help her get her job back. Currently she is facing joblessness while she still is in charge of 9 persons including her children and an invalid mother.
RFA interviewed her over the phone. Chin Savoeun is 46-year-old, she lives in Village No. 1, Chamkar Andaung commune, Chamkar Leu district, Kompong Cham province. She said that after her visit to the former monarch at the royal palace in Phnom Penh, the Chamkar Andaung village chief and the rubber plantation management immediately took her name out of the workers list.
She explained the situation of her firing as follows: “I went [to visit the former monarch] on the 26, the next day, they took out my [worker] number. The village chief told me that my number was taken out because I did not go to work [on the day of the visit with the former monarch], and I am [accused of] joining the Sam Rainsy Party, so they removed my name.”
Chin Savoeun said that she worked at the Chamkar Andaung rubber plantation since 1979. As a worker, she received 70 kilograms of rice per month and a monthly salary of 110,000 riels (about US$27). However, she lost all her income now.
On 26 July, Sam Rainsy, the opposition leader, led a group of 50 Chamkar Andaung rubber plantation workers to meet with the former monarch Norodom Sihanouk in the royal palace in Phnom Penh, allowing these workers to present their grievances to the former monarch on the hardship of the livelihood faced by these workers.
The former monarch asked all rubber plantation owners in the province of Kompong Cham to be lenient and not to arrest or give hardship to the workers, however, to the contrary, when the workers arrived at their homes, Mrs.Chin Savoeun found out that she was targeted for removal from her job.
Un Thay, Village No. 1 chief, said that the firing concerns the administration of the company only.
Sim Sun Leang, the administrator of the Chamkar Andaung rubber plantations cannot be contacted to provide an explanation on this problem.
Regarding the lay off of this woman worker, Sam Rainsy, the opposition leader, said that he is looking to have a lawyer suing the administration of the Chamkar Andaung rubber plantations on behalf of Mrs. Chin Savoeun, the victim.
Sam Rainsy said: “This is a violation of the work code from the part of the director of the Chamkar Andaung rubber plantations company.”
Sam Rainsy promised to provide rice and food to the victim in the very near future in order to help her during the resolution of this issue.
Mrs. Pung Chhiv Kek, Licadho NGO director, said that she will push for an in-depth investigation on this issue, she also said that the firing is a serious violation of human rights, and it is very inhumane.

The King and Sam Rainsy must save this poor helpless widow woman!
If the court of Cambodia wants to follow a civilised court law, they must consider as follow:
-THe lady cannot go back to work with the same employer again.
-From now to her retirement, she has (60-46= 14 years to work).
-If we consider as one month she can earn US$ 45.00, then her 14 years employment will give her
US$ 45 X 12 X14 = US$ 7560.00
-Plus she must be entiled for an illegal dismissal one year compensation US$45X 12= US$ 8100.00.
THis is how the court should look at the judicial decision.
THe employer must be also fined for look down at the King.
what a price she has to pay just to meet the King...She now understand this is a bad luck king...Don't meet him....he had reiuned Cambodia in the past.. Now he'll reiun your life too if you meet him. He's a major bad luck..
