(Kyodo) - Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said Tuesday that he will not permit a Miss Cambodia contest until the country's poverty rate drops to 15 percent from the current 35 percent.
"As long as I remain as prime minister, a Miss Cambodian contest will only be permitted until the poverty rate drops to 15 percent or GDP (gross domestic product) per capita reaches $1,000 a year from the current $448," he said.
Hun Sen earlier this year acknowledged his government's failure to reduce poverty, saying it will likely affect at least 28 percent of the population even in 2015. Cambodia's population currently stands at 14 million.
In July, Planet Communication Ltd., a local private events management company, and the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts announced that a Miss Cambodia beauty pageant would be held in mid-August.
But it was subsequently called off after Hun Sen opposed it in a Cabinet meeting.
On Tuesday, Hun Sen said a beauty contest would produce no benefit and adversely affect the government's budget.
"There is no need to show a Miss Cambodia at the international arena. The Angkor Wat temple should be a better choice," he told villagers while in Svay Rieng province, about 115 kilometers east of Phnom Penh.
Kem Tola, marketing manager at Planet Communication, confirmed the cancellation of the event, but said his company would seek permission again next year.
There were Miss Cambodia competitions in 1993 and 1995 but no contest has been held since then.

Yep. Hunsen is stunting Cambodia's cultural and growth and internatational involvement in area of social connections and cross cultural stuff so that he can continue to sponsor more of his Party Members taking poor people's land and keep more of the government money that should be spent on the people for his own safe keeping.

the decision is purely irrational and extreme because:
1. it does not cost much to organize or put together a beauty contest.
2. the committee can organized it without using public fund by collecting and solicitating donation from corporate sponsors.
3. beauty contest is good for the society because it uplift moral and self-esteem.

This decision of hun sen is proving that this monster is not a good leadership. He doesn't know that how a Miss Cambodia if succeed can impact to Cambodia at a world stage. Until today, we all knew very only that Cambodia got only criminals leaders, corrupted politicians, Drugs and prostitutions. But we didn't know the good side of Cabomdia eg Cambodia has also a beautifull woman whose can compete with other nation. If Hun sen wants to cut out poverties, he must jail all his ministers and his friends who have stolen people lands for their onw. He must reform the land onwership to limit each family not to have more than 10 ha. And also he must arrest those who has deposited more than a millions dollars abroad.
The so-called "strong man" really is so afraid of his wife. Looks like she has total control of his penis. She knows all his secrets and proably uses it to blackmail him. She said that if he ever looks at any woman who is more beautiful than her (that means almost every females on earth) than she will expose all his secrets. That's why first he has attempted to ban karaoke bars, then passed laws to forbid men to have an affair with other women and now bans Miss Cambodia contest. What's next? Forcing all women to cover their faces in public like the talibans did? All these just to satisfy his fat ugly wife. Hun San, you're a real pussy man. Take my advice, murder her then you'll be able to do anything you want assuming that your little brother is still fully functional.
Cambodia receives generous assistance from the donor community to fund its public services and development projects around the country, for which Hun Sen and CPP take credit. And, the poverty rate is still 35%. The donor community is not going to give financial assistance to Cambodia forever, so when they decrease assistance the poverty rate will climb higher.
The beauty surgeons can't do any more improvement work on Hun Sen's wife, so we may have to wait indefinitely for another Miss Cambodia Contest. In the meantime, Hun Sen and his cronies continue to plunder Cambodia's riches, confiscate people's lands, sell off state properties to their friends or supporters at cheap prices, and murder those who dare protest against their impunity or their children's mischiefs. A one-month allowance for one of their mistresses would be enough to fund Miss Cambodia Contest, which could be entirely funded by sponsorship money anyway.
Their solution will be to secretly eliminate those poor people so that the poverty rate will remain the same or lower to 15%. By that time, Cambodia may be just a waste land or wiped off the world map entirely.

I would like Mr. Cheam Yap, the Vietcong trained economist to admit that 75% of the population live below poverty line according to international standard! Otherwise, 75% of Cambodian population wouldn't for 1 dollar aday! How much Cambodian people pay for gasoline in liter? In US 1gallon of gasoline is about $3.00 and in Cambodia 1liter cost $3.00!

Even since the bird flu disease devastated the chicken and duck and foot and mouth disease devastated the cattle. The price of fish had jumped up to about 4 to 5 dollars per pound!
Mr. Hun Sen can lie to Cambodian people and to the world through the nonesense use of number and percentage but Mr. Hun Sen can't hide the truth and the reality that make Cambodian people suffer everyday with hardship from day to day!
