Thanh Nien News (Vietnam)

Vietnam’s competitiveness is ranked 77th out of 125 global economies according to the Global Competitiveness Report 2006-2007 released by the World Economic Forum yesterday.

Vietnam’s competitiveness has dropped three places compared with that of 2005; thus, Vietnam’s competitiveness has dropped continuously in the last two years.

According to the report, Switzerland, Finland and Sweden are the world’s most competitive economies while the United States shows the most considerable drop, falling from first to sixth.

Among the seven economies in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asia Nations) ranked in the report, following Singapore at the 5th position are Malaysia (26), Thailand (35), Indonesia (50), the Philippines (71), Vietnam (77) and Cambodia (111).

The report also says Vietnam’s economy is still based largely on unskilled labor and natural resources with the annual income per head below US$2,000.

The rankings are drawn from a combination of publicly available hard data and the results of an annual survey conducted by the World Economic Forum, together with its network of leading research institutes and business organizations in the countries covered by the report.

The Vietcong like to compare themselves with Cambodian! There are so many Vietcong everywhere in Cambodia and in the world and why are they not successful? Unless the THANH NIEN NEWS said it otherwise!

I had once spoke to a CPP official and he boasted that in Vietmane, one in five Vietnamese people are trained to be a doctor! Oh?

If these Vietnamese are so smart how come their competitiveness in decline? From a total score of 125 and Vietname is ranked 77th!

Good luck to all those Cambodian people who went to Vietname for their higher education!
