Even though there are some Australians who oppose the visit of the Cambodian government leader – among whom is Ambassador Julio Jeldres, the personal biographer of King Norodom Sihanouk – Prime Minister John Howard of Australia said in a statement issued by his office that he is waiting to discuss with Prime Minister Hun Sen on the strengthening of the bilateral link between the two countries in trade, security and democratic governance, development aid and regional problems.

Furthermore, John Howard also said that the two leaders will discuss on the fight against international crimes, as well as other issues related to commerce, development aid and regional security.

Nevertheless, a number of Cambodian-Australian citizens do not know much about the visit of the Cambodian Prime Minister.

According to the one Cambodian-Australian, the Canberra government did not publicize much the information for Cambodian-Australians in Sydney to know about the visit of Hun Sen and his delegation. A community meeting with Hun Sen is organized in Canberra, Australia’s government capital, and a dinner reception is planned in Melbourne. The Cambodian-Australian interviewed said: “In my state, in Sydney, they (the Australian authorities) did not dare tell us much (about Hun Sen’s arrival). In another state about 1,000 kilometers from mine, there will be a reception (in honor of Hun Sen). An open invitation has been sent to (Cambodian community in Australia for) the 12 Oct reception, in Sydney, there is no reception (for Hun Sen). Tomorrow he (Hun Sen) will arrive, he will rest in Sydney for one night then he will travel to Canberra.”

A group of Cambodian-Australian let it know that both levels of Australian governments – federal and state governments – have used underhanded tactics by inviting all Cambodian community leaders to participate in a meeting (with Hun Sen) in Canberra and in Melbourne to provide a false image to the Australian public that Cambodian communities in Australia endorse the Australian government action in welcoming Hun Sen.

Through this underhanded scheme, the Australian government also wants to ensure that no Cambodian community leaders are left to gather opposing views against Mr. Hun Sen.

Ithypol a member of the AngkorianSociety bulletin board said that several law abiding Cambodian-Australian citizens are planning to attend a peaceful rally to oppose the welcoming of the Cambodian Prime Minister in Australia.

The Melbourne police had questioned one the rally organizer about the timing and location of the demonstration. The police authority also asked whether Julio Jeldres is involved in this demonstration or not.

Obviously this report is highly biased and falls far short of the high standard of journalistic excellence we have come to expect from KI Media.

You do a great disservice to your publication and to your readers when you sink to the low level of making unsubstantiated claims and accusations. Shame on you!

You can report that some people think or beleive that the Australian government is using "underhanded" tactics, but to come right out and repeat the claim as though it is a proven fact simply undermines the objective credibility of your reporter and publisher.

Your readers are intelligent and able to think logically and crtically and you must resepct that by publishing only high quality journalism and refraining from running peices that sink into emotional and one-sided political rhetoric.

It is all well and good to support the ideals of freedom of speech, democracy and human rights, but when you do so using the same questionable tactics as the opposition then you are actually hurting the casue, not helping it.

Please consider this constructive crticism well and give us reportage that is factual, accurate and objective. The facts will speak for themselves and the reading public is quite capable of drawing its own conclusions.

If I want to have conclusions drawn for me I will read the propaganda and rhetoric of weakness from the Cambodian government and its supporters.

It is too much to expect factual and objective reporting.

I don't understand what 'Anonymous' (top posting) is so bittered about. This is meerly a news reporting piece that is worthy for all public to know. I'm envying the 'true' democracy of the western countries, Australia, America, France, Canada...etc. where people can peacefully hold the demonstration rally. Neither dictatorship nor psuedo democracy through intimidation, but true democracy makes the country progress. What do you want ? Do you just want to throw people into Prey Sar Prison for just expressing one's own feeling ? Please suppress me no longer.

Great job KI-Media for exposing facts as facts, not 'prawlak skar' --sugar coating what's rotten inside. Thank you !

Vannak,

I think you're a newcomer, aren't you? Well. If had f/u with all the latest news about Hun Sen, as you mentioned -- you would learned a little about factoid. In the last 30 yrs, have you noticed any changes for the greater Cambodia?

Let's be honest with your answer since you love Hun Sen so much. Don't interpret the Khmer words in Roman Alpha... We're not stupid like your uncle Hun Sen. Educated people get a degree by earning it, whereas ah Hun gets it by buying it.

Do you think his son in West Point finish the military training? Do you know where West Point is "ah ploer"!

Not exactly sure of "Anonymous #1" position in regards to Hun Sen visit to Australia, are you pro Hun Sen?

An anonymous#1 is probably a Western profersonal hired by CPP to write messages discrediting any news medias opposing their political agendas. Like he/she wrote we are smart people and we know who are the bad buys. The writing will not sway our views concerning Cambodia and the well beings her people.

To fight against Hun Sen is a good thing.

But to use other people's home to do such activity is very rude and coward.

If your Khmer want to do demonstration, fly back to Cambodia and start the rally.

Don't be chicken. See what Thai did. When the Thais are not happy with the govt's corruption, they went down the street right in front of the govt and never care if they could die with machine guns.

Your Khmer monkeys are very coward.

You won't go anywhere protesting in Australia.

Do it the right way, or don't do it at all.

You will just waste your time. And will make Australian people annoyed with your chicken activity.

See what Thais did when they don't like the government.

They never lived under anyone's boots.

That makes the difference between Thailand and Cambodia.

If you want to demonstrate against Hun Sen, do it like what the Thais did.

Or don't do it at all.

Your chicken demonstration in Australia makes me laugh.

Stop political movement on other people's soil.

They may don't tell you directly, but many Australian people don't like to have such foreign activities to run on their soil.

Your Khmer are so rude. And very coward.

You only know how to talk, no "real" action.

Running a demonstration against Hun Sen on Australian soil is just an excuse for your Khmer monkeys to stay living in Australia.

It was just to make Khmer Australian feeling alright.

After they finish their toy demonstration, they just go back to their home in Australia and continue living like nothing happen.

Do it the right way, go to demonstrate in Phnom Pehn.
