DAYTON — Six months before Geneva Lake Dunham died, she took a teller's suggestion at a Fifth Third Bank branch in Moraine to convert some of her certificates of deposit to an annuity.
Dunham, 89, never suspected the teller would plunder $114,000 of her funds to feed a gambling habit.
Sothy Nouv of Centerville pleaded guilty Monday in U.S. District Court to a bill of information charging her with bank fraud.
Nouv, 34, faces up to 30 years in prison. However, her attorney said federal guidelines recommend 12 to 18 months in prison.
Senior Judge Walter H. Rice set sentencing for Jan. 22 and ordered a probation officer to try to find an agency that treats gambling addictions for Nouv to attend while she awaits sentencing. The Cambodia native is here on a permanent visa, the Secret Service said.
Nouv was working at the branch at 1923 West Dorothy Lane between Jan. 27 and May 30 when she converted $55,000 of Mrs. Dunham's funds to cashier's checks, court documents said. Between May 26 until July 13, Nouv withdrew an additional $59,000 from the annuity and put it into her personal account at the bank, documents said.
Dunham died July 9. Family members reviewing her estate first noticed the discrepancies in her accounts, Secret Service Special Agent Bradley J. Mercer. They went to Fifth Third Bank, whose security staff interviewed Nouv. Nouv blamed the thefts on her gambling addiction, Mercer said in an affidavit.
A week after she was interviewed, Nouv placed an empty bank deposit envelope at Fifth Third, purporting to contain $10,000 for a deposit to her account. The ruse was to cover checks she wrote on the account during another gambling binge when she tried to win the lost money back, Mercer said.

Never trust a fuken gambler and no matter how nice or kind s/he is!
I had a relative who is a gambler and I disowned that mother fucker!
To 1:01am dang such a strong words there buddie to use it especially on your own relative. Instead of disowned him or her, have you ever consider taking him/her to counceling or treatment instead of just cutting people off like that. That's so stupid...A problem can be solved instead of just drop it dead like that.
As for the Cambodian women on this article who worked in the Bank and robbed the old women's money. What the heck you were thinking? are you nuts!!. We'll you deserved to be in jail for the next 30 years. Make us Cambodian look bad....I think I know you if I see your face!...You are such a shame to Khmer People...American should never bring your ass here, they should leave you Srok Khmer and work in that whoe house. A fucking Theft.
We all steal. We are all thieves. The only difference is that the teller got caught. Also, society dictates how much you steal is wrong. Have you ever taken more than your share of napkins at a fast food restaurant? That is stealing, in the bigger picture, stealing is stealing no matter how much.
Her name is Lexus GX on facebook. That bitch is still a lying the if till this day
