On Friday 06 Oct, Chrea Sochenda, MP from Kandal province, sent a letter to Sar Kheng, vice-prime minister and minister of Interior, asking him to intervene and get back the villagers’ national identification card confiscated by the Phanimex company.

Chrea Sochenda wrote that people from the Chrauy Russey village, Kampong Luong district, Kandal province have sold their land to the Phanimex company in June 2006, and that the company confiscated the Cambodian national identification card, as well as the family books of the 110 families [who sold their land]. So far, the Phanimex company has not yet returned the documents back to the villagers.

The confiscation of these personal documents constitutes an illegal act. Currently, the villagers need these documents to register to vote in the upcoming elections.

THis private company has no right to keep private property. This kind of act is calling crimes aganist personal privacy and must be fine heavily for breaching this king of act.
