Thai premier pledges continued cooperation with Cambodia
(Kyodo) - Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont pledged Sunday to continue cooperation with Cambodia and maintain any pledges and projects made by his ousted predecessor Thaksin Shinawatra.
Khieu Kanharith, minister of information and government spokesman, told reporters during the bilateral meeting Surayud assured Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen of continued good relations.
During talks in Phnom Penh, the two premiers discussed a number of topics, including the overlapping maritime border, the land border issue, offshore oil exploration, aid pledges by Thailand for roads that will link Thailand to a number of tourist destinations in Cambodia, and the continued implementation of regional joint development projects of the Ayeyawady, Chao Phraya, Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy.
Saying the military coup Sept. 19 that ousted Thaksin is an internal matter for Thailand, Cambodia welcomed Surayud as new prime minister Oct. 2, Khieu Kanharith said.
When asked about the relationship between Surayud and Hun Sen, Khieu Kanharith said Surayud has had good personal relations with Hun Sen and he recalled Surayud's presence at a number of Hun Sen's ceremonial activities in Cambodia, including the wedding of Hun Sen's daughter in 1999.
Interestingly, Khieu Kanharith said, during the one-hour bilateral talks Sunday Surayud used Khmer, Cambodia's official language.
Cambodia is the second foreign country visited by Surayud since he came to power last week. His first trip was to Laos on Saturday.
Before returning to Thailand later Sunday, Surayud is to pay courtesy calls on Chea Sim, president of the Senate, and Heng Samrin, president of the National Assembly.

I'm not surprised at all that Thais speak Khmer. Many are Khmer born or related and many are just plan crook. They just want to speak Khmer for what ever reason they may be or just plan and simple: to do bad thing.
One example:
During the refugee cases back in 1979-1980's, many Thais asked Cambodian to teach their daughters and sons Khmer's Language and also giving the real Khmer refugees a larger sum of Thai batts or money in exchange for their daughters and sons's places to go to the third country like the United States or France or Autralia.
Did we agree to it? Please ask the one that did. Those Thai Batts at the time of desperation and a chance to stay close to home was pretty much irristable. This is how Thais see the benifit of speaking Cambodian.
The power of knowing how to speak the foreign language isn't bad or is it?
and of course, when someone speak your language, chance are they know your custome, your thought, your feeling and intern easier to live next to each other. Let's hope that this new PM is a good human being and he means well. True Buddhis are good people, but don't lose our gun...
And don't forget Thai, your language is pretty much ours. It deosn't take long for us to learn it. Many be the many that cross your boder to do business in Thailand each day will be the first to pick up. Many people in Battambang speak Thai fluencely, too bad many of those people died during The KR time, but don't loose hope, the next Khmer's Spy will surely learn your language. Good bye!
One thing, i'm scare or avoid learning foreign language is their accent. Thai, Youn, Loas all sound very very wierd and low. I cann't stand it!!!!!!!!
Thanks God!, I like English.
I don't care who can spead khmer. the importance is that who love khmer and can care of khmer issues and of course in do somthing again khmer. They will be all my friends.
Seilavath
sorry of course not doing something against Khmer.

The Thai and the Viet are no different and don't let them fool you! Tell me how long had AH Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont been speaking Khmer? For along time?
So this mean this bastard did understand firsthand information to what happened to all those Cambodian people in refugees in Thailand! This bastard understood the abuse, the killing, the mugging, and the raping of Cambodian people by the Thai Buddhist army! I will bet this bastard did understood when Thailand allowed B-52 to drop bomb on Cambodia too!
I agree totally with 10:27PM and I too remembered how the Thai people disguise themselves as Cambodian refugee just to come to United States! This is fucken disgusting!
AH HUN SEN have the right to welcome AH Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont as enemy not as guest!
To 12:28am
I'm getting there. May be I at least should learn how to curse in Thai.
