KI-Media has learned through Cambodian-Australians that a dinner reception in honor of Hun Sen is planned for Thursday, October 12, 2006, in Melbourne, Australia. The invitation for the dinner which was sent out by Mr. John Thwaites, MP Deputy Premier of Victoria, reads:
In view of the welcoming of Hun Sen by Australian PM John Howard and this reception, several law abiding Cambodian-Australian citizens are planning to organize a peaceful rally to protest this event.
One of the organizers of the rally received a call from the Melbourne local police on Friday afternoon questioning him about the date and location of the event. The organizer was also questioned if Ambassador Julio (Jeldrez) was also involved. Julio Jeldrez is the official biographer of King-Father Norodom Sihanouk, the Ambassador recently sent a letter to PM John Howard pleading him not to receive Hun Sen in Australia. The rally organizer was told by the Melbourne police that the Australian Federal authority will also contact him later to confirm the situation.
In view of the pressure exerted on Cambodian-Australians to suppress their freedom of expression and opinion and their opposition to the welcoming of Hun Sen in Australia, Cambodian-Australian communities, societies and associations are invited to participate in large number in the peaceful protest rally.
Additional information about the rally will be provided at a later date.

Through this underhanded scheme, the Australian government also wants to ensure that no Cambodian community leaders are left to gather opposing views.
