Experienced radio journalists in Cambodia will take part in an upcoming workshop on accurate and ethical coverage of development issues. The training is scheduled for November 27 to December 1 in Phnom Penh.
The Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD) is conducting the workshop with support from UNESCO. The goal, according to AIBD, is to help the journalists improve their reporting and analysis on human rights and development issues. This training is for journalists who work for national broadcasters that are AIBD members or affiliate members. Journalists should apply through their member organization.
Participants also will examine the ethical challenges that they face in the field and radio’s public service role. An AIBD announcement says the workshop will focus on coverage of five key areas: economics, education, health, natural disasters, and war and conflict.
The workshop will also give the journalists the chance to network, cooperate and share ideas. The AIBD plans to conduct similar workshops in the near future in Pakistan and Thailand.
Participants should have good command of English and at least five years of experience in radio news reporting. Preference will go to women and to those between 40 and 45 years old.
