Reckless Driving Leaves Two Killed and Six Hurt

The Cambodia Daily

Two people were killed and six others critically injured when a speeding car hit two motorbikes and two bicycles in four consecutive collisions in Battambang province, police said Tuesday. Sok Chanrithy, 44, the director of Acleda Bank branches in Battambang province and Pailin municipality, allegedly crashed his Toyota 4 Runner four times within a distance of 7 km on National Route 5 at about 6:30 pm Saturday, said Sath Kimsann, provincial traffic police chief. Sok Chanrithy, who was intoxicated at the time and driving in the car with his wife and two children, fled the scene of each crash but was forced to stop when his car broke down, Sath Kimsann claimed. The bank manager and his family then fled on foot, Sath Kimsann alleged. Sok Chanrithy presented himself to police Tuesday to negotiate compensation with the families of the dead and injured, he added. Chhay Soeun, finance department manager for Acleda Bank in Phnom Penh, said that Acleda is involved in the compensation negotiations, but added that the manager's car was not a company vehicle.

In western world, dangerous driver cannot escape justice by just paying the compensation. He must be jailed for manslaughter for a lifetime. If this kind of driver can be allowed to be free from conviction, the country will face more dangerous drivers like that.

I plan to retire myself in Cambodia. But I may change my mind.

He should be fired from Acleda. He is irresponsible person. He showed bad role model for a person in charge in society. Get rid of him! Acleda is doing the right thing by taking step negotiating the compensations to the victims; that shows Acleda is a responsible bank. It is a good PR too.
