Chinese crewmen confirmed dead inside sunk freighter
Bodies of 3 Chinese crewmen missing after their Cambodian-registered freighter sank in the Kammon Strait of southern Japan after colliding with a Japanese transport ship Friday night were found Saturday.
The three are a 42-year-old chief engineer, a second officer and a trainee, both 27, Kyodo News said, quoting the Japan Coast Guard.
The two vessels collided at around 8:45 p.m. Friday when the Japanese transport ship was entering the Shimonoseki port, Yamaguchi Prefecture, the coast guard said, adding that the other seven Chinese crew members on the freighter were rescued and all of the 6 crew members on the transport ship were safe.
The sank freighter was carrying parts of used vehicles and was heading for China.
The coast guard said the sea was calm with good visibility when the accident happened, and causes of the incident were still under investigation. .
