If the president of the Cambodian Bar Association wants to take legal action against lawyers participating in training offered partly by the Defense Office of the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia, he is disrupting the ECCC's role, ("Bar Threatens Lawyers Over ECCC Training," Thursday, page 1).
Lawyers need training to strengthen their capacity in order to ensure a fair trial. The ECCC is a special, international tribunal and its laws may supercede some Cambodian laws, excluding the Constitution. The Khmer Rouge cases are not local matters, but international ones.
