SRP lawmaker Son Chhay has submitted a letter to the Interior Ministry requesting that measures be taken to stop the illegal issuance of Cambodian passports to foreigners.
"Issuing passports illegally to foreigners, especially to mainland Chinese, and Taiwanese, etc, has been happening for many years—no less than 1,000 people per year," Son Chhay wrote in a letter to the National Assembly dated Oct27.
"These foreigners have to pay to the involved officials $2,000 to $2,500 or maybe more," he alleged.
Son Chhay said in his letter that Cambodian passports are being used to facilitate human trafficking, drug smuggling, money laundering and other illegal activities.
With his letter, Son Chhay attached two photocopies of Cambodian passports belonging to people he claims are Chinese nationals.
He said that he was unable to locate the home addresses of the people identified on the passports.
National Police Commissioner Hok Lundy, whose signature appears on all Cambodian passports, challenged Son Chhay to provide evidence backing his allegations.
"Let me send my response to him: Please bring evidence to the Ministry of Interior," Hok Lundy said by telephone Monday.
The Phnom Penh Passport Office was closed Monday and Ministry of Interior spokesman Lieutenant General Khieu Sopheak could not be reached for comment.
Son Chhay’s letter was accepted by National Assembly President Heng Samrin and forwarded to Minister of Interior Sar Kheng, according to documents received Monday.
In March 2001 the Interior Ministry broke a sophisticated forgery operation in Phnom Penh that was responsible for an estimated 100 people bearing fake Cambodian passports entering the US on valid visas.

Sam Rainsy Law makers must inform to all foreign countries to awared of individal carry cambodian passport to enter their country. They must interview them at their entry point for the true citizen. The fraudulent of passports were being amde by Hok Lundy and his associated.
