The Phnom Penh municipal court is planning to hold a court session on 15 November to deliberate the lawsuit brought up by Prince Norodom Ranariddh who accused Funcinpec extraordinary congress held on 18 Oct as illegal. The court will also examine another lawsuit against the decision made by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to recognize the result of the extraordinary congress which removed the prince from his position as president of the party.
At a press conference which lasted several hours on Monday at the Le Royal Hotel in Phnom Penh, the prince said: “Based on my position as the legal president, I must sue, I sue knowingly that I will lose.”
The court session will be held on 15 Nov following the two lawsuits brought up by Serei kosal, the special representative of Prince Norodom Ranariddh, seeking redress and justice.
Serei Kosal told RFA on Monday that he and Prince Ranariddh will not be present at the court, only Leav Sovanna, their lawyer, will be present at the court. If they lose this round, they plan on bringing the cases to the appeal court and to the supreme court next.
Serei Kosal added: “Even if they not let us win, the prince will still visit [the provinces] in his name as Member of Parliament, not only as a MP from Kompong Cham province, but as a MP for the entire country as stated in the Constitution.”
Leav Sovanna, the lawyer for Prince Ranariddh, said: “On 15 Nov, the court will try to obtain an arbitration regarding the lawsuit to annul the result of the 18 Oct congress, if there is not reconciliation, an urgent judgment will be rendered.”
In reaction to the court case, Nouv Sovathero, spokesman of the Funcinpec party led by Keo Puth Rasmy, said: “This is only an act to attract the sympathy from party members, however, the majority of base party members know that the party reform is very important for the livelihood of the Funcinpec party.”
Khieu Sopheak, MoI spokesman, said that the ministry is willing to send a representative to clarify the court on its decision to recognize the congress result if summoned by the Phnom Penh municipal court.
On 18 Oct, during Funcinpec extraordinary congress led by Nhiek Bun Chhay, the congress decided to remove Prince Norodom Ranariddh from his position as party leader, and nominated him to the position of party historical president. However, the prince refused the position and a dispute ensued. The lawsuits were instigated whereby representatives of the prince accused the congress of being illegal, and they also sued the decision made by the MoI to recognize the congress result.

He is the prince of monkey. He is no longer trusted or needed. He said that he would not win the court case. Why is that? Is it because of his case or is it because the Cambodian Court not fair? If that is the case why a year ago, when Sam Rainsy protested that the Cambodian Court is not fair; however, the prince of monkey proclaimed that the Cambodian justice system was fair. Why now he suggested that he would not have won the case because he has reluctaned to believe in the Cambodian Justice System is free and fair from political controlling. What's a shrim head prince! Why do you have to be the leader all the time, and why not someone else? Why can you doing something else beside Funci's leader, by knowing that you are not capable of leading the party, you should give up and let others to take their chance that might improve the party and the country greatly!
Yiss ah Samdech krom Praet nis nov mean mook mean mot tor va teat? take the damn monies that you got for the Head Quarter and move to your fucking lovely nation of Paris or Malaysia and stay there.
