Villagers in Ratanakkiri province have accused local officials of threatening them with jail if they don't withdraw a complaint about a land dispute from the provincial court, a rights worker said. Eight villagers from Bokeo district made the accusation in a written complaint to Adhoc on Tuesday, said Adhoc's provincial coordinator Pen Bonnar. The villagers say they were threatened during a meeting with police and other officials including district governor Kum Sakhan, he said. Kum Sakhan said no one threatened the villagers. "They planned to withdraw [the court complaint] by themselves in the meeting and we did not threaten them."
