About 10 high school students from at least 4 high schools: Bak Touk, Indratevi, Wat Phnom, and Boeung Trabek, have set up a rendez-vous for a swordfight causing several injuries yesterday, in Kien Svay district, a suburb of Phnom Penh.

Va Sabit, Kien Svay police chief, said that the swordfight led to 5 people injured: “The hoodlum youngsters had a swordfight. There were 8 youngsters who caused injuries, and we confiscated proof from them: 3 samurai swords. They were running in mayhem when we arrived at the incident location. There were onlookers and travelers who complicated the arrest by our forces. Among the 10 youngsters, we arrested 8 of them, 2 are on the run, 2 are seriously injured and have been hospitalized, and 3 are slightly injured. Their group started to take off [when the police arrived]. Now we have confiscated 13 motorcycles.”

The motive of the sword fight dispute is not known yet. And the parents of the hoodlums are not known either.

All of these children should be sent to Poulavay Island for good.

They are born fighters just like the rest of the Cambodians.

Send them to defend the boarder perhaps! They could spend their energy fighting for all.

i agree. Instead of having draft law to force good students out of school and inadversly alter Cambodia's future, I believe we should send these trouble making kids who like to fight and train them to fight for a purpose. Send them to the army and let their boldness defend the border. Kids who are rebellious against authorities are more likely to act independent mindedly, if taught to understand the importance of border and territorial soverignty these minds could be useful. They will actually defend Cambodia when Cambodia is right.

And why does everytime there is a sword it have to be a samurai. Where can a kid get a Khmer sword now a day?

The police probably has never seen what a samurai sword looks like. It is quite expensive, and it is usually purchased as a collection item. Those steavs probably used a dagger or cheap imported sword from Taiwan, China, Thailand or Vietnam. They are sold openly in the Central Market.

If those steavs or rebellious youth are trained and sent to protect Cambodian borders they will be bored stiff, and they will not last for a few weeks. They will run back to the city in search of excitement where they would rather fight and bleed to impress the girls than for a national ideal. Just like the Cambodian military grabbed people's lands, but they are nowhere to be seen when our neighbours grabbed our lands.

Whether they are rebellious youth or soldiers, these people usually show off for the wrong reason. It is a sad state of mind for Cambodia.
