About 6,000 people from the Ampil Pram Deum commune, Bavel district, Battambang province, and 350 others from Sangkat Kouk Roka, Dangkao, Phnom Penh, will not be able to vote to elect their local representatives in April 2007 because the National Election Committee (NEC) turned down their complaints.

Khorn Keomono, the NEC deputy director of public information, told RFA that NEC had decided not to resolve the complaint brought up by the representative of people living in Ampil Pram Deum because it is too late already. As for the complaint brought up by 350 people from Kouk Roka, the NEC had also decided not to bring it up for a resolution either.

Khorn Keomono said: “The provincial people who came to ask for the NEC intervention, it is too late already regarding the voting list verification and voting registration.”

Eng Chhai Eang, SRP MP from Battambang, criticized the refusal to examine the complaints from the people as an irresponsible act by the NEC: “When the NEC refused to allow Cambodian people to register to vote, it is an irresponsible act by the NEC.”

For the NEC It too late for Cambodian citizen to register for voting or complaint about the voting process.

But for NONE Cambodian foreigner all are STILL welcome. NEC roles is to look after foreigner interests to ensure a fairer election for Vietnamese + others of the CPP interests NOT Cambodian.
