Clinton Should've Taken Time for Those Still Grieving Grenade Attack

Letter to the Editor
The Cambodia Daily

I hope former US President Bill Clinton had time while he was in Phnom Penh to visit the memorial at the site of the 1997 grenade attack. He might be interested to know that while on his watch, a thorough investigation by his Federal Bureau of Investigation determined within weeks who was responsible for this cowardly act. But unfortunately, his Departments of State and Justice chose to bury the report for fear of upsetting Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Clinton might have met with the families of those killed and injured that day and explained how diplomacy won out over justice. I’d like to see him dazzle his way out of that meeting and those questions. He might also have explained why angering Hun Sen was of greater concern to his administration than bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.

Maybe he can have one of his famous "town meetings" and let those surviving family members ask him questions about the slaughter of their mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers. Those of us still concerned with this tragic event will never stop trying to bring the killers to justice. As a former US president he should join us in this fight.

If he chooses to ignore it or confess ignorance of the tragedy, he should be ashamed of himself! He wouldn't get away that easily in his own country.

Clinton as the former President of the United States who is a leader of all democratic countries in world should pay tribute to those freedom lover victims monument who were killed by Ah Hun Sen's government. He should be more courageous to show Ah Sen that he really cares for those who dies for democratic cause in Cambodia. However, Clinton's trip is not for political cause. Just pur humanitarian.

Maybe the anti-Hun Sen group is not effective enough for President Clinton to be bothered with.

Ron appears to be one of those guy that "HATES" president Clinton, regardless of what he does.

The president is only human, and he is NOT perfect. However, his excellent public service does more good than any past mishaps he may have done.

Ron should be ashamed of himself for attacking the President while he is on a "volunterrily" good deed missions in Cambodia. He could have stayed home, eat his Big Mac, but he decided to make a difference.

Mr. Ron, in Cambodia, we say we are small, reastr (normal people), like an egg, we can't challenge with an elephan. Fanally, we, normal people deserve to receive just pain and unjustice!!! Even the FBI of USA, even Bill Clinton could not find you who is american justice. How can normal cambodian find our justice, not only in the March 30, 1997, but even also between 1975-1979!!! Where is justice in this world??????!!!!!
