After the National Assembly swiftly passed two recent laws on military conscription and adultery, and following the ban on 3G phones, I strongly appeal to parliament to adopt a law prohibiting all forms of pornography, including child porn.
This petition is worth extending to all interested NGOs and institutions, and to the public.
For the last two decades, Khmer tradition and customs have been under unprecedented attack from foreign culture, including pornography. Perpetrators in Cambodia have taken advantage of the situation to do business.
Pornography is linked to the increase in human trafficking, rape and sexual exploitation. When news appears of uncles, brothers or grandfathers raping their relatives, who can convincingly say this has nothing to do with pornography?
A law banning porn will help preserve Khmer culture and tradition. It will also restore Cambodia's downgraded morality, and promote the dignity of men, women and children. And it will help combat rape and pedophilia across the country, as well as decrease HIV-AIDS.
But any law will need to be strongly enforced.
Please help make Cambodia a better place for all Cambodian children and for those who call Cambodia home.
