Free Trade Union of Workers of the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC) alleges the government Monday, of being involved in the slaying of its former leader [Chea Vichea] in 2004.
Chea Vichea was president of Cambodia's Free Trade Union of Workers. He fought on behalf of the workers in Cambodia to improve their working and living conditions. He was shot to death on January 22, 2004.
Current FTUWCK leader and Chea Vichea's younger brother, Chea Mony says that the government is closing their eyes to his brother's death. He maintains that the real killer is still at large.
Ministry of Interior spokesman Khieu Sopheak has dismissed the charges against the government involvements.
Many, including former King Norodom Sihanouk, do not believe that the two men are guilty. Human Rights Watch Asia and Amnesty International issued a statement last year, urging the Cambodian government to release Born Samnang and Sok Samoeun.
