Cambodian monks protest against religious rights in Vietnam

Fifty Cambodian Buddhist monks have protested outside the Vietnamese embassy calling on the communist-run nation's visiting president, Nguyen Minh Triet, to allow greater freedom of religion.

More than 100 riot police armed with electric-shock batons and AK-47 rifles lined up outside the embassy as officials tried to persuade the saffron-robed monks to leave.

The protesters said police in southern Vietnam had recently arrested and disrobed nine ethnic Cambodian Buddhist monks.

"We want the Vietnamese authorities to give them the right to practice Buddhism," one of the monks, Hol Pirom, said.

Mr Triet was due to meet King Norodom Sihamoni at the start of a two-day state visit to Cambodia.

He will also hold talks with Prime Minister Hun Sen, a former Khmer Rouge rebel who fled to Vietnam in the late 1970s before returning with the 1979 invasion that brought an end to Pol Pot's four-year reign of terror.

Vietnam denies accusations by international human rights groups that it represses human rights and religious freedoms.

If monks are really oppressed in Vietnam, then those who touches a monk, or denies any religion to its people, are nothing more than animals...

Fifty moks protest in PP. Is that
all the monk PP has ? Vietnam is communist law. No respect to any
religen. Cambodia wa Communist system under Vietnam rules before 1990. Cambodia was a state before
we adopted new constution on 21/9/1993 than became KINGDOM OF CAMBODIA. (see Article 1) When a land that no constitution is lawless. If we're Khmer the commentator with KI Media have no
knowledge of constitution, or if
do but no respect of constitution
you're wasting of time of doing so.
Again I am a 20 years old try to understand the systems,
With all respect to my elders.

Bati,

What is your point? Read the article carefully. These 50 monks travelled from kampuchea Krom to do protest in Phnom-Penh. Do you see how courageous they are? Monks in Cambodia should join them to protest. We need to get rid off Hun Sen and CPP. Otherwise, Cambodia and Kampuchea Krom will be under Vietnamese control forever.

Why Cambodia Kings, father-king, and Khmer politicians are so stupid?. Kampuchea Krom people tries to get the land and their right back where Khmer Kandal tries to give it away.

My point is, we must united in groups and levels to become one Khmer. See the Royal
family is not united, Buddhis (Monk) is not united, no matter where monk come from but they believe the same priciple. Khmer Krom is Khmer as u & I. They cries
for freedom, I'm not ignor and judgmental.

I commend all those monks and the khmer krom people who continue their courageous struggle for freedom despite overwhelming odds. I want them all to know that they have all my support and their struggles will not be in vain. One day our khmer leaders will wake up and unify our people as ONE KHMER NATION.

Khmer Forever!!!

Fools, there is nothing in any
scripture to encourage monks to
join political party. It is all
scams. They are trying to destroy
buddhism from the region, and
they must be stop at all cost.
