Yesterday, 289 families from Sre Ambel district, Koh Kong province, sent a letter to the provincial court to denounce the concession given to the Koh Kong Sugar Company by the Ministry of Agriculture on what the villagers claim to be their lands. Three families sued the company guards whom they accused of slaughtering their animals which entered the land given in concession to the Koh Kong Sugar Co. During the morning, a mediation meeting was held between Sin Chhuon who represents the villagers, and Ly Yong Phat, the boss of the Koh Kong Sugar Co. and CPP Senator. The propositions made by the villagers in exchange for their agreement to give up their lands to the company – which included either a land swap or a cash buyout – were rejected by Ly Yong Phat. “I am here to develop the economy,” Ly Yong Phat declared while ridiculing the villagers’ “watermelon plantations,” he also called on the villagers to become workers for his sugar cane company. Three human rights NGO: Licadho, CCHR, and CLEC, called the authority to intervene in this land dispute.

Who say gamblers can not have good future? Krom Ngoy was really wrong with his idea. People see clearly now that Gambler or drugs traffickers can have a very bright future, see example of the famous Gambling senators and drugs trafficking senators of Cambodia.
