The potential abuse of illegal weapons by CPP supporters in Svay Rieng province is worrisome for fair commune elections in April, a Norodom Ranarridh Party official said Friday.
In Sokhom, an NRP representative, said party-goers in a small provincial town were threatened by a CPP village chief aid armed with an illegal weapon earlier this month.
When an NRP commune election candidate questioned local authorities, he was told that nearly everyone in the village was armed, making the problem hard to solve.
Cambodian elections are typically plagued by violence and political intimidation.
