SRP CONDEMNS THE MURDER OF MR. HE VUTHY
The Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) strongly condemns the murder of Mr. He Vuthy, 34, president of the union of garment workers at the Suntex factory, a member of the Free Trade Union of Workers of the Kingdom of Cambodia (FTUWKC). Mr. He Vuthy was killed at 5:15 AM on February 24, 2007.
The SRP had great respect for Mr. He Vuthy, who worked tirelessly to protect the rights of the Suntex garment workers.
Coming so soon after the shooting of the singer Ms. Pov Panhapich, this murder adds to the alarm among the residents of Phnom Penh, and the SRP shares its concern about this weekend's rise in violence.
The SRP appeals to the authorities to investigate thoroughly and to arrest the murderers. We must end Cambodia's cycle of impunity and give justice to all, especially the representatives of the workers' union.
