The leader of the Cambodian Artists Association (CAA) called on generous donors to provide humanitarian help to singer Pov Panhapich in order to save her life.

Eang Sithul, the president of the CAA, gave a report on the situation of singer Pov Panhapich, who was shot on 23 Feb and who is currently undergoing medical treatment in Vietnam, whose condition has been improved.

Eang Sithul said that Pov Panhapich’s family told him that the singer’s face looks much better and that she can move her arms and legs. She tries hard to open her mouth to talk but the doctors told her not to because she still has a sounding tube in her throat. Furthermore, her family is desperately looking for help to continue her cure.

Eang Sithul said: “Pov Panhapich’s condition has improved, her face looks nicer, and she can raise her arms and legs to signal. She opens her mouth to talk with us but the doctor does not allow her to do that yet, she still has a sounding tube in her throat. Her parents and her relatives are asking me, as the CAA president, to issue a call to generous donors to help provide additional funds for her during her continuing stay at the hospital. Through you (RFA) … please broadcast this information and call to all generous donors both inside and outside the country, please help a Cambodian actress who is suffering from the shooting…”

Artists ask the King for protection

Eang Sithul also said that Cambodian artists fear the use of violence and the murder attempts on its members in the city of Phnom Penh. The CAA is asking the intervention from King Sihamoni to help protect them.

Eang Sithul told RFA on 18 March morning that he led a delegation of artists to meet King Sihamoni recently, and he also reported to the king their fear on the recent shooting of a Cambodian star. He also showed the king the need for the king to provide reassurance to the CAA members.

Eang Sithul said: “We reported to the king about the shooting of Pov Panhapich, as well as other shootings on [singer] Touch Sunnich. Right now they are still being cared for, and the [artists] need the support from our leaders. We ask the king for help protect [the artists]. He said that he will always stand with us. Therefore, we thank him for his attention [on this issue].”

Once every four years, at least one famous artress became the victim of a shooting: Piseth Pilika in 1999, Touch Sunnich in 2003, and Pov Panhapich in 2007.

Hun Sen and his CPP cohort are not less brutal and barbaric than the Pol Pot genosidal regime with regard to the killings of innocent and defenceless Cambodian artists. Fallen victims of the blood-thirsty Khmer Rouge from 1975 to 1979 were Sin Sisamouth, Sos Math, Meas Hok Seng, In Yeng, Ros Serey Sothea, Huoy Meas, Pen Ran, So Savoeun, Chhuon Malay, Mao Sareth, just to name a few. Therefore, Hun Sen and the CPP leadership have to be one day brought to the Hague International Criminal Court, but not the ill-conceived ECCC.

I fully support the idea of 4:11AM because those talents from Cambodia's golden age are priceless and can never and ever be replaced.

To 2.51 and 3.15

Ieng Sithal or his secretary can be contacted at +855-(0)12 52 02 90. He is a good and honest man. I trust him. I'm sending my donation to him. I have his permission to make public his phone number. By the way he will go to America on 23 March.

I wish to appeal to those who used to have good relations with Pov Panhapich to take of her, and if they are powerful people, to find justice for her, apprehend her attacker(s) and bring them to justice.

I make the same appeal to those who at one time or another had good relations with Piseth Pilika to do the same.

If had good relations with such people and if they were attacked or murdered, and if I were a powerful man, I would be an ignoble coward if I did not use my power to pursue their attackers and bring them to justice. I would feel I was a coward, a coward, a coward,...for the rest of my life and in my grave.

Dear Dr. LAO Mong Hay,

It's a very pleasant surprise to hear you say something on this particular blog. However, you sound a bit desperate while talking about horrendous crimes which are still occurring in our country under the nose of the donor community.

Dr. LAO Mong Hay,
Talking about pursuing criminals and their backers and bringing them to justice, I think that you are much more well placed than anybody else due to your qualifications and career experience acquired both from overseas and in Cambodia. Frankly speaking, it's next to impossible to find a better person to lead a legal team, gather evidence and build cases as Mr. Chhang Youk and his Document Center have been doing for years in relation to the atrocities perpetrated by Pol Pot and his Khmer Rouge regime.

Please start doing something and people will certainly follow you. However, with all my sincerety, please do not join Mr. KEM Sokha in forming a political party for the upcoming 2008 general election. Why? You certainly know why.

Best regards from Savath POU (Senator Expelled)

Dear Excellency Savath POU,

I was very glad to hear from you. You have made an extremely good suggestion. May I suggest we join forces to do it together? We met in Cambodia. I regretted very much your expulsion from the Senate and I wrote to protest the expulsion of the other Senators at that time. You have a lot more expreience than me, being outside the country, inside the country, inside the system and outside the system. Let's get others to join as well.

I'm not joining KEM Sokha's party. Last week I wrote a letter to inform him about this.

Here is my e-mail address: laomonghay@netvigator.com.

Yours sincerely,

LAO Mong Hay

Dear Dr. LAO Mong Hay,

I am overwhelmed by your prompt relpy and highly honoured by your call to join force in doing something worthwhile for our country and our fellow countrymen. For me, it's surreal.

Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to say to you without any hesitation whatsoever that I'll join you for whatever you do for the benefit of the poor, the oppressed and the defenceless.

By the way, many thanks indeed for all articles you wrote in 2002 to protest the expulsion of the 4 of us from Cambodia's Senate, i.e. Senators Chhang Song, Phay Siphan, Keo San and myself. We definitely owe you gratitude.

Yours Savath POU (Senator Expelled
